Sunshine Yoga's knowledgeable yogis, Kelli and Nancy, enlighten apprentices on the postures and breathing of the Vinyasa and Anusara traditions. Ease body, spirit, and mind during Kelli's Vinyasa sessions, which are designed to slowly raise body temperature through a series of slow-flowing poses that tone muscle and optimize neural search engines. Nancy, who has thousands of hours of experience with Anusara yoga, weaves the meditative philosophy of "flowing with nature" with static poses that fortify musculature to stave off injury and improve posture. Novices embarking on an Anusara journey, which requires knowledge of a unique vocabulary, are advised to start with beginner-level classes to limit the use of balance-crumbling flashcards.
Sunlight spills through Maya Yoga?s glass-block windows, quietly illuminating students as they meditatively make their way through a series of poses amongst tapestries of Hindu deities. Here, teachers shepherd students of all levels through flowing Vinyasa sequences and the ancient poses of the Ashtanga tradition. To help loosen tight muscles and oust toxins, teachers heat up the studio to a limb-limbering 80 degrees. They also play tranquil music to help the group breathe deeply as they commune with their inner selves and train their third eyes to not wink at every attractive stranger who passes by.

Seven years ago, some like-minded yogis met in a Denver park to practice yoga in the great outdoors. They didn't know that in the years to come, their numbers would swell to the hundreds?or that this tradition would become an anticipated event in 20 cities. In that moment, they just wanted to celebrate an atmosphere of unity in nature.
Today, Yoga Rocks the Park (Open Sky Marketing) meets on select Saturdays and Sundays in the spring and summer, drawing participants from locales such as Chicago, Phoenix, and San Diego. Though the movement's reach has yet to stop growing, all of its incarnations are staffed locally?area yoga teachers run the trademark 75-minute, all-levels class, and area pigeons act as the security team. At the same time, live musicians provide a soundtrack for the flowing series of poses, and local businesses within the community sell yoga- and wellness-related goods from a row of tents in the Wellness Vendor Village. Yogis of all ages are welcome. In fact, a class for kids keeps youngsters occupied while parents stretch in the sun.
Westport Yoga?s owner and head instructor, Kate Lindholm, considers herself a lifelong student of yoga. For more than a decade, her passion for learning has led her to study under a number of prominent instructors. But in her words, Kate?s journey only truly began when she discovered the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali in 2005. This ancient text heavily influenced her teaching style, providing her with 196 aphorisms around which to base her classes in hot-flow, Vinyasa, classical, and restorative yoga. Kate has shared her knowledge with her staff, who lead classes in a variety of yoga and levitation styles, and who were named Best Yoga Studio 2014 by Kansas City Pitch.
