  • Babaloo International Cafe & Bar
Though the chefs at Babaloo International Cafe & Bar were inspired by the sharable small plates of Spain, they didn't limit themselves to just Spanish dishes. Instead, they craft appetizers and down-sized entrees of cuisines from around the world. This creates a varied menu, with prosciutto-wrapped asparagus appearing beside miniature beef wellingtons and Cuban crab cakes made with plantains. These dishes pair well with wines selected from the vineyards of Spain, Portugal, Argentina, and Australia, to create meals that are both light and filling, much like four courses of flavored heliums. When evening turns to night, the restaurant becomes a hotspot for dancing, with theme parties, hip-hop nights, and salsa dancing.

  • Budare
There's nothing pretentious about the traditional Venezuelan food at Budare Arepa Express. Diners eat off red plastic trays or out of yellow plastic baskets while tasting the kaleidoscopic culinary influences of Africa, Italy, Spain, and France?which all appear in Venezuelan dishes. One of the cuisine's signature creations are arepas, a South American cornmeal cake that can be grilled, baked or fried. Authentic Venezuelan arepas are stuffed with meats, cheeses, and fresh-cut avocado slices as green as a jealous forest. Meat lovers will enjoy the parillas (mixed grill) or choose from muchacho (roast beef), solomo (sirloin) and lomito (steak). The kitchen also serves up Latin American favorites, including empanadas, tostones, and fresh juices.

Such Louisiana/Texas hybrids include Cajun Style Burritos enchiladas smothered with black-bean corn relish, as well as chicken-fried chicken topped with Cajun pepper-cream gravy. As for po? boys, Brooks crafts more than 10 versions filled with classic proteins such as fried catfish and roast beef.
