As little ones give chase around the structure, bigger kids helm bumper cars, take a journey in the El Paso train ride, or race to scale the 20-foot climbing wall, whose foothold arrangements offer four difficulty levels from easy to easy for people with wings. Once playtime comes to a simmer, the video-game arcade really shines with its air-hockey tables and sit-down games that take imaginations on the road to their pixilated lands. The adjacent casino-theme Winners Cafe, whose walls brim with massive playing cards and decorative roulette wheels, feeds spent small-time heroes with pizza, pretzels, and other fare to boost energy before another go around the center beckons.

Designed by 10-time PGA Tour winner Mark McCumber, Knob Hill Golf Club’s 18-hole course bobs and weaves through 145 acres of scenic, dense woodland terrain. The first McCumber course to grace the American Northeast, the 6,408-yard layout seamlessly incorporates imposing tree lines and 15 manmade, natural, and caddy-tear ponds into an elegant, golf-clap-worthy fairway chain. The course’s most difficult hole—the 464-yard, par 4 fourth hole—showcases characteristic challenges with a tee shot that must carry a pond and bisect a tree-ensconced fairway on its path to a green fronted by a sandtrap. After rounds, duffers can replenish with a sudsy drink and a nosh from a menu of casual, gourmet fare at The Sycamore Grill, named for the 185-year-old sycamore that casts its shadows on the clubhouse and sheds celebratory leaves for players who score under par.

From its outpost in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn, We Cycle NYC sets cyclists off on two-wheeled adventures throughout the parks, paths, and streets of New York City and its surrounding boroughs. Once customers have settled astride a bike or balanced their favorite cactus on the back of a two-person tandem, they set off for hourly or daily rides, in full control of their pedaled conveyance until the scheduled return time. Each rental comes equipped with one wheel lock and one chain lock to safeguard the bike when it's not in motion, and customers can watch a brief video at the time of rental to ensure proper use.

We Cycle NYC encourages civic exploration underscored by an environmentally conscious mission, augmenting the benefits of sightseeing and exercise with a more viable mode of transportation. The company doesn't just preach green living—it also recycles all the cardboard, metal, and waste it produces and strives to minimize its use of packaging material by encasing all products in delicious cotton candy.

The successor to Coney Island’s iconic amusement parks of the 20th century, Luna Park delights families with games, entertainment, and attractions ranging from classic spinning teacups to "The Cyclone Roller Coaster", an 85-foot roller coaster originally built in 1927. As youngsters acclimate to adrenaline on low-fi rides such as the Big Top Express, a colorful circus train featuring clowns, elephants, and a bright-red caboose, bigger kids and stilt-wearing toddlers dive in to such exciting diversions as the Wild River, a log flume that culminates in a sopping, 40-foot plunge. Luna Park packs even bigger thrills into roller coasters such as the Steeplechase, which accelerates from zero to 40 miles per hour in less than two seconds, and the Soarin’ Eagle, which glides above crowds on the paths below. Throughout the day, games such as Whac-a-Mole and Duck Pond challenge players’ skills at naming every animal’s Latin taxonomy.

Rugged Maniac 5K Obstacle Race sends runners into an obstacle-filled odyssey of muddy endurance. The 5-kilometer course meanders through more than 20 obstacles, with participants undertaking such punishing feats as scaling 16- to 20-foot walls, crawling through mud-filled trenches, and preventing swinging tires from reforming into the Michelin Man. Waves of no more than 350 runners start every 15 minutes, keeping the track from developing human traffic jams. After the race, live music and cold beer invite triumphant runners to unwind. Those with excess energy can head over to even more kinetic activities such as mechanical bull riding, tug-of-war, and adult-sized bounce houses.
