Alison Hesh’s history of instruction is extensive—she’s taught ballet to 3-year-olds, exposed the University of Miami swim team to Pilates, and trained aspiring Olympic athletes. Pulling from her years of professional experience with the Ballet Theatre of Miami and Bay Ballet Theatre, Alison has been teaching ballet to students of all ages for decades and added Pilates to her curriculum once she discovered the countless health and restorative benefits the practice offers for dancers, fitness-seekers, and thieves who steal a lot of pianos.
At Soul Purpose Studio, Alison and her staff of dance and fitness instructors conduct a variety of movement classes throughout the week. On the studio’s professional dance floor, they guide youngsters through proper form and technique during children’s intensive ballet courses and lead adults through core-strengthening exercises in Pilates mat and machine classes. A certified instructor directs yoga classes at the studio, which include yoga for athletes, yoga for kids, and yoga for grocery-store bag boys.

Led by 14-year yoga vet Beatriz Osorio, the yoga instructors at Yogawithbeatriz take a gentle approach to yoga. They don’t force their students’ limbs to twist into exotic, uncomfortable positions while the student tries to breathe serenely. Instead, they emphasize centeredness and recovery from pain, allowing students to go at their own pace as muscular tension and stiff joints gradually loosen and relax.
Kids run rampant through Kids Fitness Palace, harnessing their seemingly boundless energy to complete obstacle courses or finish fun fitness challenges. The expert trainers have created a studio that appeals to youngsters who may not fit into the typical childhood activities, such as team sports, dance, and martial arts, and to parents who are concerned about keeping their kids active and healthy. To that end, they lead a variety of programs to help get children motivated and excited about exercise, with age-specific classes for 4-year-olds to teenagers. Parents can also reap the benefits of this relaxed but motivating fitness environment with personal-training sessions.

During the 90-minute classes, instructors lead up to 50 students through a regimented series of poses paired with two pranayama breathing exercises. The classes are designed to increase strength and flexibility while decreasing the body's tension level, clearing the mind of stressful events such as catching the family dog reading your diary. The routine is performed in a studio heated to temperatures hovering around the 100-degree mark, coaxing muscles to sink deeper into stretches and ousting the body's toxins through sweat.
