For five generations, Nathan Kaiser's family has worked the same stretch of land at the 2bar Ranch in South Texas. While Nathan's grandfather continues to run the ranch, his grandson has struck out on his own to open 2bar Spirits. Still, he draws on his family's dedication to local ingredients. To make their handcrafted batches, Nathan and his head distiller, Gabe Newton, depend entirely on Washington state farmers. Corn and malted barley distill into each sip of 2bar moonshine, while wheat and malted barley flavor pours of award-winning vodka. Nathan and his team happily lead tours throughout their on-site distillery, and bartenders distribute samples of both spirits inside 2bar's wood-paneled tasting room.

Not many distilleries would invite their customers to bring in their great-great-grandfather's moonshine recipe so they can try to reproduce it. But at Dry County Distillery, community, attention to detail, and something called "alcohol" are the not-so-secret ingredients that go into every bottle. Owned by the Johnston family, the small distillery focuses on quality instead of quantity while crafting small batches of vodka and gin. And that focus is paying off—Sip Northwest Magazine recently crowned their Black Rope Anise liqueur as "Best Herbal" in the region.
