Crooked River Adventures’ river adventures are leisurely, no-experience-required pleasure cruises that challenge the muscles while massaging the mind’s shimmering-blue waterscape dreams. Glide past verdant foliage, through glittering reflections of aged bridges, and into great blue herons’ great blue neighborhoods while the sun warms your skin, the wind blows through your hair, and your hair blows through your hat. All the while, you’ll be learning the proper strokes that propel floatmobiles to ultrafun, and you’ll begin to gain functional understanding of the strength of a body in fluid, powerful motion. Crooked River Adventures operates in conjunction with Kent State University Recreational Services’ Adventure Center, which has received statewide recognition for its boating program and outstanding handshakes from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Watercraft.
What's your dream? If the answer to that question involves flipping through the air or launching off a ramp, then that fantasy is well within reach. On the outskirts of Butler, Ohio lies Ohio Dreams?the site of action sports training camps for skating, skiing, and BMX. Ohio Dreams' counselors lead eight-week sessions for campers 7?17 years old. They also host adult classes for one to four days. To ensure everyone gets the necessary instruction, the camps maintain a five-to-one camper-to-counselor ratio.
Riders pedal their way around a 1,400-foot BMX track, where bikes bank along dirt turns and hop over jumps. A three-level concrete and wood jungle serves as the domain of skateboards and scooters, and adventures await in the indoor big ramp park. As for snow sports, the warm weather doesn't stop the camp. Ohio Dreams makes use of water ramps, where skiers and snowboarders slide down a simulated mountainside, soar into the air, and come down into a deep swimming pool, which some theories say is filled with the same substance that makes up snow. These adrenaline-filled days end in dorm-style lodging, before the sun rises on the next adventure.
Thanks to an adjustable resistance knob on each bike, the indoor cycling class routines at Psycle can be easily adapted to all fitness levels. However, they are also a challenging workout, and “not for the weak of cochlea.” The husband-and-wife duo helming the studio, Tom and Joni, blast motivational tunes throughout sessions and encourage students to sing along. However, the studio doles out free earplugs to any takers, ensuring comfort for all.
The studio’s name, a fusion of psychology and cycle, reflects the same philosophy as its high-octane tunes—a belief that the mental and physical are as interconnected as a lumberjack and the axe he shaves with. Outside of cycling classes in the stadium-style indoor cycling studio, the instructors also bring this philosophy to fitness classes that incorporate kettlebells, circuit training, and playing catch with mini fridges.
At Top Gear Bicycle Shop’s two locations, a team of master technicians tends to road and mountain bikes while a staff of avid cyclists outfits shoppers with appropriate gear for their riding surface of choice.
