Five years ago, Sean Carter closed himself inside an isolation float tank for the first time. In that small space, he discovered a whole new world, unbounded by gravity. He enjoyed a relaxed mind, enhanced creativity, and a soothing break from the bustling outside world. He loved his experience so much that he decided he had to share it with others by founding Float Fresno with his wife Carolina Carter. Though he still makes regular use of his equipment, hopping inside one of the tanks isn't actually Sean's favorite part about his job. He says he most enjoys watching people of all ages find a bit of personal peace within the float tank.
His float tank is an enclosed light and sound proof environment, with a shallow solution of water and 1,300 pounds of dissolved Epsom salts. Sanitized by state-of-the-art UV light and Ozone generators the solution is maintained at 94.5 degrees to further help clients lose all sense of external stimuli, ultimately leading to a state of relaxation and the ability to free vast regions of the mind. Flotation therapy sessions provide a number of benefits, including speeding muscle recovery, providing relief from arthritis, and boosting the immune system.

As he revealed in a 2011 issue of Fresno magazine, Jaber Audi first discovered alternative healing methodologies after injuring his back. Rather than risk the side effects associated with modern medication, he sought relief through various holistic therapies, including acupressure, craniosacral therapy, and aqua massage. Deeply impressed with the procedures? effectiveness at naturally relieving pain, he went on to learn their techniques and open his own health spa, Touch of Japan.
By balancing the mind, body, and spirit, Jaber and his resident massage therapist, Sandy, have led clients to health and the spa to two Best Day Spa titles from Central Valley?s People Choice Awards. Clients can stop in for a range of treatments?sometimes incorporated into a single session?including lymph drainage, shiatsu, and relaxing Swedish massages. To alleviate chronic headaches and muscular pain, the spa encourages clients to enroll in preventative maintenance every week or month, depending on how often they want to play hooky from work.
Set up in Heart & Soul Wellness Studio, Natural Beauty's Sam Ulep strives to help her clients feel "beautiful no matter what." Open compacts of MAC and Urban Decay cosmetics fan out before her as she dips a contouring brush into a palate of 28 flesh-toned eye shadows and chooses one to accent her client's brow bone. Her nimble fingers paint eyelids in iridescent, sherbet-colored gradients so smooth they seem airbrushed on, but she can also blend refined looks subtle enough for day. That dexterity extends to the painstaking process of eyelash extensions, which she affixes one by one to give brides a more glamorous gaze, and also to facials, which she employs to clear complexions of imperfections and hardened cement.
At the Hungry Hair Salon, Tammie Riley and her team of stylists keep manes healthy and shiny with precision cuts and advanced coloring techniques. Originally opened in 1990 as a standalone salon, the business eventually grew to include a soothing spa space beneath it. Inside the spa's private treatment rooms, aestheticians restore waning visages with specialized services such as SkinCeuticals peels and anti-aging facials infused with hyaluronic acid and Omega ingredients. Injection specialists also plumps up visages with dermal fillers or introduce B-12 solution to clients, leaving them with more energy than a first grader who finally got the pony made of sugar she always wanted.
