As the warm sun rises over the foothills of Sherman, the staff at White Silo Farm & Winery is already hard at work—tending the grape vines, picking fresh raspberries for jams, and bottling sweet wines within the rustic 1800s barn that houses the winery. Guests can stroll the lush outdoor gardens and pick their own berries from the raspberry and blackberry bushes. The winemakers host tastings in their winery, when guests can sample a variety of small-batch fruit and grape wines, such as the crisp rhubarb, the upland red and white grape, and the sparking red raspberry.

Drawing on her extensive knowledge of equine care from apprenticeships with top area professionals, Hessy Derman has manned Chessfield Farm's 23 acres of stalls and stretches for more than 15 years. Accommodating beginning and advanced riders alike, lesson programs pair pupils with school or student-boarded steeds for half-hour galloping sessions based on the closest matching horseshoe size. Equestrians trot about Chessfield Farm's custom built and professionally landscaped grass paddocks, 80'x120' indoor ring, and 100'x200' outdoor ring. Heated viewing lounges and shaded picnic areas overlooking each ring house spectators and technique-stealing camels in disguise. Chessfield Farm remains open seven days a week, extending its hours of operation into weekday evenings to oblige student schedules. Trainees should call ahead to schedule their sessions.
Though Landwork Contractors, Inc.'s technicians spend all day manicuring and pruning, they strive to get their fingernails dirty. The team specializes in residential landscapes rich with intricate designs and custom masonry such as brick walkways and stone walls. Around these details, they plant evergreen and flowering trees, install mulch, and design perennial gardens to give outdoor spaces color and beauty and make deer so awed that they can't bear to munch a single leaf.:m]]
In 1965, Popular Mechanics ran a small classified ad for Brookstone, a new catalog company that packed its pages with functional products and detail-oriented descriptions. Brookstone quickly expanded to meet the high demand for its collection of “hard-to-find tools,” and opened the door to its first retail location in 1973. Today, Brookstone’s more than 300 nationwide retail locations allow customers to test-drive its ever-growing lineup of interesting products, which range from Bluetooth-enabled massage chairs to power adapters designed for international travelers and their electronic passports. Staying true to its roots as a catalog company, Brookstone houses an even larger selection of products, each waiting patiently to be shipped, on its website.
