With a 2,500-square-foot patio and two bars, The Sparrow's Landing promises lots of room for relaxation. The laid-back drinking hole and grill borrows recipes from both sides of the Atlantic to create its menu, which features a burger called The Irishman with beer-battered potato planks, cheddar cheese, and whiskey barbecue sauce, as well as shrimp po' boys sided with macaroni and cheese. As for entertainment, 10 giant TVs air throughout the space and local bands take the stage to serenade guests as they sip their choice of beer on tap or specialty cocktail.

To lend Park Avenue's exposed-brick dining room its atmospheric lighting, the windows of its New York City skyline mural cast a faint white and green glow. The restaurant's mural and name aren't its only nods to NYC: there's also the Big Apple burger, which arrives smothered with fried mozzarella, bacon, avocado, a fried egg, and zesty salsa. The rest of the menu runs the gamut from bar staples, such as sliders and boneless wings, to steak-house classics including 12-ounce rib eyes doused with brown mushroom-cream gravy. Martinis, shots, and other drinks from the full bar complement these meals, which often precede late-night entertainment such as live bands and DJs.

Most buildings don't include a 13th floor, and for good reason. Far from simple superstition, the 13th Floor Haunted House bears out the worst fears of its visitors. Nightmares are unleashed as a group called the Darkstalkers, under the command of the powerful Harvester, prowl for visitors amid the shadows. And, once inside the Vault, intruders might find themselves unable to escape—and forced to balance the spirits' checkbooks for eternity.

Anthony Russo, a first-generation Italian, spent years in the kitchens of his parents and other Italian chefs learning authentic Italian recipes for sauces and pastas. He eventually drew on his experience kneading New York?style pizza to open his own chain of coal-fired pizza franchises. Exposed bricks surround the burning embers at the core of the oven, which bakes thin-crust specialty pizzas, such as escargot with pesto, alongside heart-healthy pies with fresh spinach and artichokes. After sliding out golden-crusted pizzas and singed fairy-tale witches, chefs fill ovens with calzones and flatbreads. A full wine list supplies bold cabernets and crisp pinot grigios.

Mole sauce is traditionally made with fistfuls of dried poblano peppers and hints of chocolate. Drawing on recipes for time-tested Mexican cuisine such as this, cooks at Tequila Restaurant fill the kitchen with the clatter of pots and pans. Chimichangas and avocados stuffed with strips of beef sizzle in hot oil, and carne asada crackles against a skillet beneath slices of peppers and onions. Ranks of tequila bottles stand on a shelf behind the bar, waiting to fill margarita glasses or help write a cowboy ballad that is due the next day.

In Hemingway's Bar & Grill's bustling kitchen, Chef Jason West crafts rotating weekly menus inspired by seasonal produce and fresh catches. The seafood cache pairs pasta and vegetables with a sautéed or artfully blackened fillet, which, like Ebenezer Scrooge, is warm and tender beneath its toughened demeanor. A signature gnocchi of the day joins chops and bowls swirling with house-made soups, and lavish Sunday brunches greet the day with pastries, omelets, and curlicues of peel-and-eat shrimp. Hemingway's full-service bar, the Blue Marlin, pours domestic and imported beers alongside flights and bottles of wines, which often headline their own tasting events. Hemingway's Bar & Grill also caters special events throughout the Corpus Christi area.
