The iced toddy, a cold-brewed coffee over ice, is one of the many special artisanal drinks on the menu at Coffee Waves. You can get a caffeine boost with both cold and hot drinks here. Grab a drink like the grasshopper frap and feel free to lounge among the cozy seating area, which has local art hung on its exposed brick and stone walls. In addition to drinks, you can order panini stuffed with Boar's Head meats and pastries selected from local bakeries. Feel free to use the free wireless internet to get some work done or post updates about the current temperature of your coffee. The Coffee Waves downtown location just had its grand reopening after being closed for renovations.
Cinderella Dance’s energetic instructors call on years of experience in the fields of dance, acrobatics, and pageantry as they guide mother-child duos through basic somersaults and shimmies during one-hour Mommy and Me Tumbling classes. Children aged 16–35 months can join their progenitors in fun, physical activities spanning four weekly sessions, in which an array of exercises and graceful tumbles introduces youth to the foundations of fitness and discourages them from future careers as patio-furniture cushion-testers. Small class sizes ensure individual attention, and positive interaction with peers improves social and sharing skills. While flipping and flailing around the studio, children should wear leotards, stretchy shorts, and footless tights, and mothers may dig out their old spandex wedding dresses.
For close to a decade, the stylists at Salon Divine have done much more than transform hair with services such as extensions and texturizing treatments—they've made a difference in their community. In September of 2011, the team paired with Driscoll Children’s Hospital during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month to help people donate their hair to make wigs for young cancer patients. They also recently hosted a benefit for a client with non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
Their care and compassion is reflected in the attentiveness they show to clients' hair, nails, and skin. They soothe tired feet with fragrant peppermint, citrus, or rose salt scrubs, and enhance the stress-reliever manicure with a hand and wrist massage, loosening joints that are stiff from rehearsing one-man sock-puppet shows. As a further tribute to client comfort, the salon boasts leather furniture and elegant, dark wood accents throughout. Bright pops of magenta from the backlit ceiling and strategically placed floral accents add a whimsical vibe that permeates the team's creative hairstyles.
Turkey Gone Wild! It might sound like a surreal newspaper headline, but it’s actually just the name of one of Small Planet Delicatessen & Bakery's hot sandwiches. The gourmet creations are the deli’s specialty, and the aforementioned Turkey Gone Wild is a melty layering of turkey, white cheddar, purple onion, and avocado spread. The deli's New Planet sub also starts with turkey, but bulks up with hard salami, jalapeños, and pesto sauce, tucked between slices of jalapeño-cheese bread. Customers can also build their own sandwich from a diverse selection of breads, meats, and toppings that includes everything from sweet ham to artichoke hearts.
The rest of the menu boasts an international spread of deli- and bakery-inspired foods. There’s country french quiche and athenian gyros, mesquite-chicken quesadillas and kids’ personal pizzas. A tempting array of baked goods in single-serving sizes enables patrons to try just a slice of tuxedo-truffle cake, or a single white-chocolate-and-walnut cookie, the crumbs of which can be tossed in the air for a post-meal celebration.
The Marble Slab Creamery sensory experience begins by just walking past the storefront, where the buttery scent of fresh-baked waffle cones drifts out into the air. Gourmet ice creams are freshly crafted on site from Marble Slab’s original recipe, enticing customer's eyes with a rainbow of colors. Once clients have made a flavor selection, they choose from a smorgasbord of mix-ins, from fresh fruit to nuts to candy and crumbled cookies, which an ice cream chef then hand-folds in atop a frosty marble slab before packing the finished custom-designed flavor masterpiece into a house-made waffle cone.
In addition to procuring hand-held treats, Marble Slab Creamery can send creations home in a variety of other formats, such as ice cream cakes, cupcakes, and hand-packed quarts, or in the capable hands of a catering team for sprucing up special events such a corporate get-togethers or school functions with portable marble slabs or sundae bars in tow.
