After Dustin Canestorp returned home from his tour of duty in Iraq, he and his Marine Corps buddies would gather to play poker and sample the beer Canestorp brewed at home. His dream: to brew beer professionally by opening a microbrewery in eastern North Carolina, a beach-filled haven with a craft-beer desert. That dream came to fruition, though with one additional element: Beer Army would raise funds for local charities and communities. Now, Canestorp holds festivals that introduce revelers to local and regional craft beers while gathering money for those in need. He also runs the brewery, which currently pours four of its own brews, and manages the Beer Army Outpost, a 3,000-square-foot store with a plethora of craft brews for purchase.

Since 1996, Shell Rapid Lube and AutoSpa's team of technicians have been giving vehicles expedited oil changes at their ever-expanding network of service shops. This extensive experience has translated to a quick turnaround time for the team's oil changes, which, in a span of about 20 minutes, fill cars with fresh lube, exchange their filters, double-check 18 of their vital points, and quiz their knowledge of General Motors trivia. The shops' car-wash tunnel runs vehicles through a gauntlet of brushes, soap, and water jets.
The sun-bathed slopes and immaculate greenery of an 18-hole golf course welcome members and guests to the stately grounds of Timberlake Golf Club. Inspired by the sprawling links of the Emerald Isle, the 6,511-yard, par 71 layout challenges golfers with slick, bent-grass greens, cavernous pot bunkers, and grassy mounds that produce lies more awkward than a middle school dance. Before rounds, golfers can smooth out their swings and putting stroke at the club’s full driving range and recently installed practice green. Members can also work up a sweat while smashing forehands at the club’s tennis courts before tip-toeing, diving, or driving their golf cart into the cerulean waters of an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

The staff members at Sylvan Learning's numerous study facilities understand that each child learns differently. Therefore, they don’t try to implement a uniform tutoring system; instead, they design custom lesson programs based on the results of standardized testing, diagnostic tools, and one-on-one interviews.
Tutors work with students from kindergarten through grade 12, illuminating topics ranging from basic reading and writing to remembering complex algebraic formulas without having them tattooed on your chest. Many of Sylvan’s instructors work in local schools, so they are intimately familiar with common curricula and understand how to gear lessons toward optimal results. After-school and summer classes can ready high-schoolers for the rigors of the ACT or the SAT, or they can help students to wow college-admissions officers with their superior essay-writing skills.

Midday stacked specialties tower over blue and orange booths with fried green tomato BLTs topped with applewood-smoked bacon ($7.99). Cajun-style mahi-mahi tacos ($7.99) wear crowns of pepper jack cheese and mango salsa, and the cheesy cheeseburger ($6.99) fills stomachs with cheddar, swiss, provolone, and house-made pimento melted over a half-pound patty and served with fresh-cut pub chips and a softly spoken ode to Wisconsin.
