Everyday, Robert Sax and the rest of CrossFit Amped?s coaches create brand new workouts steeped in functional fitness. Their hands-on approach to training includes showing clients the proper form when weightlifting, swinging Kettlebells, and flipping giant tractor tires onto the car of a mean boss. Classes run daily and are tailored to ensure that each participant is challenged, no matter their fitness abilities.

What is one fun, unusual fact about your business?
You won't hear our students' landings. It's a little secret called "ninja noise." This helps keep impact low, and stealth high.
As the old adage says, "Stuff happens." What training do you and your staff have to stay ahead of the unexpected?
Coaches are legitimately certified to teach Parkour, holding multiple parkour certifications. We are expert momentum anticipators and course creators. We minimize risk through safety drills, multi-level skill progressions and strength milestones. [Instructors are] First Aid? and CPR-trained in case anything happens. However we have not had one serious injury in the three years we've been coaching due to our safety protocols.
What is the experience customers can expect, and how do you make it special?
Through our classes students can expect to experience life-changing techniques. Ranging from the simple truths of how to squat sustainably to how to traverse lava while having fun and collecting speed and style points.
There's more than one way to defend yourself. Just ask Alpha Martial Arts' instructors, who include muay thai world champions Kru Alberto Ramirez and his wife, Ariana Ramirez, who has appeared on Oxygen's reality show Fight Girls. Kru Alberto and Ariana teach the adult Muay Thai kickboxing classes, while Chris Herman and Silas Ness teach the Kenpo Karate programs. These master fighters teach teens and adults an array of martial arts techniques, including the strikes of karate and muay thai, all while helping them shed pounds and tone muscles. Alpha's team also coordinates youth martial arts programs for ages 4?12.
Throughout the week, sneakers pound upon triple-bonded foam as students undergo high-intensity routines combining cardio, resistance-training, core-training, and flexibility exercises at Seattle Boot Camp, where trainers work to motivate others in their journeys toward improved fitness and well-being. Their approach focuses on meals made up of lean meats, vegetables, and fruits, eschewing excessive sugar, salt, and bacon-wrapped donuts deep-fried in bacon-wrapped-donut fat.
More than a mere place to lift weights, StoneWay CrossFit aims to build a sense of community among its members, spurring its students to break past their physical and mental limitations with high-intensity workouts. The team of qualified, passionate coaches draws from past experiences that include serving in the military, running ultra marathons, and bravely ignoring an open box of donuts. Here, instead of steering students toward treadmills or high-tech ellipticals, they introduce them to the boxes, tractor tires, and gymnastic rings required for CrossFit's organic, functional-movement exercises, and supplement the routines with nutritional assessments and personal training sessions. And because the challenging workouts are ever-changing, CrossFit helps students of all body types, ages, and skill levels build strength and stamina without forcing them into a boring routine.

In 2005, Sili Kalepo and a friend started working out in an old warehouse; it was their solution to the complete lack of neighborhood gyms in Rainier Beach. Fortunately, the space suited their style of exercise pretty well, their programs caught on, and they started a gym. They became part of the non-profit Urban Impact, striving to promote healthier lifestyles in the community. Time treated them well, and in 2013 they relocated to a brand new facility on the ground floor of the Emerald City Commons, with their CrossFit program taking over the space next door.
These days, workouts incorporate a variety of agility, strength, and endurance training techniques. The routines can get pretty intense, but the trainers are on-hand to monitor maneuvers and ensure participants stay healthy. "We believe that all people have a threshold that is safe for their bodies to handle," says the CrossFit trainer. "All workouts can be modified to your intensity level and ability."
