At Sushi Bistro a team of master sushi chefs assemble deep-fried YMCA rolls chockfull of yellowtail, spicy mayo, crab, and avocado. The YMCA is one of more than 20 specialties, like the blend of tuna and hot chili sauce in the new Dynamite roll, an improvement over the old Dynamite roll’s tuna and gunpowder. Besides its namesake treat, Sushi Bistro specializes in plenty of other Japanese favorites, including hibachi-grilled king salmon and succulent cuts of teriyaki steak.
Named for the historic train station located just down the block, Kirkwood Station Brewing Co. celebrates chugging of a different kind with an ever-rotating menu of draft beers. Hoppy ales and wheaty draft beers pour directly from a serving tank, ensuring fresh flavors. Seated at small tables and booths surrounded by nostalgic photos, guests order railroad-themed snacks, including the All Aboard Nachos and Depot Fried Green Beans served.
Sand shipped fresh from Florida covers Stratford Sand Volleyball’s three courts, cushioning players as they jump, dive, and lunge for the ball. With leagues four nights a week and tournaments on weekends, there’s ample opportunity to test skills on these courts or spectate on the adjacent patio, which stretches across 4,000 square feet. A nearby bar, just steps from the courts, helps keep the fun going in between games.
Peppe Profeta began cooking before he was old enough to grow a beard or tall enough to sneak into rated-R movies. At the ripe old age of 10, in his native Italy, he learned his family’s treasured recipes and techniques at his grandfather’s side. Then Peppe traveled to America and spent his teenage years honing his skills at Gian-Peppe's on the Hill before willing into existence his own Peppe's Apt. 2. Today, he labors in the kitchen to create Italian and Mediterranean pastas, beef carpaccio, and tender pork chops as guests lounge amid the exquisite beauty of the dining area—a historical Victorian house. There, elegant white-cushioned chairs cradle diners beneath twinkling crystal chandeliers as they dig into pasta primavera or rack of lamb. Outside on the patio, a canopy of umbrellas and magenta flowers shields diners from the sun, and a wall of meticulously maintained shrubbery blocks passersby from attempting to start a staring contest.
The staff of fitness experts at Best Body Fitness works with its clients to lose weight and tone muscles with training and nutrition. In addition to body-composition analysis and personal training, the staff also offers fitness classes such as Hard-Body Yoga, which combines the stretching of yoga with strength training.
