Fitness instructor Jeff Hughes first cinched up his black belt more than 15 years ago when he became an Austin-area kung fu instructor. Since then, he's incorporated a number of new moves into his fighting repertoire to create CrossPit, a multidisciplinary program that blends CrossFit fitness training with the no-holds-barred approach of mixed martial arts. He bases his program on the idea that the only things a fighter really needs to be successful are a solid stance, swift movement, stamina, and a few key strikes. With this guiding principle, he created a simple but effective fitness regimen that works for anyone from new moms looking to lose weight to experienced fighters hoping for victory at the next after-hours cage match on the Senate floor. He staffs his studio with handpicked instructors who enjoy the same rigorous training he does, and together, they lead classes in MMA, sports performance training, and kickboxing for men and women. Their kickboxing classes in particular garner a lot of popularity, attracting as many as 45 students per session.

Led by head instructor Gary A. Schill, who has 37 years of martial-arts experience, Peak Performance Training Center instills life skills and strength in fitness-hungry students. A cadre of MMA programs spans martial arts from A to Z—from the ground-fighting smarts of Gracie jiujitsu to the elbows- and knees-focused training of muay thai—and the Full Body Fitness program includes personal training, boot camps, sport-specific training, olympic weight lifting, and yoga.
Trained by JuKiDo founder Kyoshi Ivan Ujueta, Haben's Martial Art's head sensei Paul Haben draws from his hard-hitting experience to help students reach their individual goals. Classes cover a range of disciplines including the syncretic style of JuKiDo, which blends the soft defensive styles of judo and jiu-jitsu with the uncompromising strikes of karate and kickboxing. Students can also learn Brazilian jiu-jitsu, which enables the neutralization of larger opponents through the assistance of the floor, or focused, mixed martial arts for students determined to kick through lead. Since in utero instruction has proven impractical, Haben's Martial Arts accepts students starting at 4 years of age, with classes especially designed for different age groups.
