Members can also ramp up their exercise regimens with the help of Anytime Fitness’s staff of personal trainers, who demonstrate moves and sling motivating tips. After workouts, guests can shower in the private restrooms or hop into one of the tanning booths available 24 hours a day.

The staff at Hair Studio 52 + Day Spa offers upscale spa services without the pretension that can sometimes be found at high-end boutiques or medieval castles' saunas. Aside from Aveda spa treatments and microdermabrasion, clients can reserve appointments with Dr. Vicky Hagstrom, a physician who administers injectables, chemical peels, and hair-restoration services. Of course, spa services are just half of what's available here—in the salon, stylists perform cut, color, and texturizing services, and nail technicians groom digits with scented scrubs, foot soaks, and gel polish.

Pine Island Golf Course opened on Labor Day weekend in 1994—fitting, since golfers have to put in a fair amount of work to surmount the gauntlet of wide fairways, water hazards, and rock outcroppings spread across 140 acres. Though challenging, the course presents a fair test for golfers of all stripes, earning it a "Hacker's Favorite" designation by Hacker's Guide to Minnesota & Western Wisconsin Golf Courses. When not golfing or searching the woods for winning scorecards, visitors can hone their skills on practice facilities including a driving range and putting green.

Course at a Glance: * 18-hole, par 71 course * Total length of 6,563 yards from the back tees * Course rating of 71.8 from the back tees * Course slope of 131 from the back tees * Four sets of tees per hole * Scorecard

Snap Fitness's easyFIT monitor is a small, clip-on accelerometer that helps keep track of daily exercise. Unlike pedometers that merely measure steps and spy on daydreams, the easyFIT monitor senses the intensity and duration of physical activity, transmogrifying those stats into simple, numerical points that help assess activity levels from sedentary to peak performance. In addition to tracking exercise in real time, easyFIT monitors can connect to the wearer's personal web portal to upload data and create fitness graphs that help show progress, snag exercise suggestions, and stave off the temptation of living next to a hamburger farm. The activities at Christmas Mountain Village change throughout the year, even as the peaks and rolling hills surrounding it reveal different aspects of their beauty as seasons change. In summer, a 27-hole championship golf course sends players swinging right down the middle of the resort. Outdoor pools and hot tubs sparkle throughout the grounds, while canoes, kayaks, and paddle boats float on the surrounding natural waters. Warm days are also filled with mini golf, sand volleyball, and horseshoes.

When winter covers the mountainside in snow, it's time to ski?either downhill or cross-country, or you can skip the skis and pick up a tube. Fifteen downhill runs range in difficulty from complete beginner all the way up to double black diamond. More advanced snow-masters can practice tricks at the terrain park.

It's a lot to explore in one day, but thankfully, the resort offers many lodging options: including cottages, log cabin rentals, and an RV park and campground. There's also Mulligans Bar and Grill, an ideal place to warm up by filling your mittens with cheese curds.
