A nonprofit celebration of bold theatrics, Moxie Theatre sinks its teeth into tantalizing topics throughout its sixth season lineup, colorfully summarized by the season's overarching theme, "In Celebration of Bad Girls." The five-production season includes Eleemosynary, a witty portrayal of family functionality across three generations of women (running September 1–September 26); a classically frightening rendition of The Crucible (October 30–December 5); and The Toughest Girl Alive, an autobiographical musical detailing the nearly true story of Candye Kane, who's been, among other things, a punk rocker, teen mother, adult-film star, and cancer survivor (mature audiences only, January 13–February 6). Rounding out the season are two additional productions, Or, and Ten Cent Night, in the spring and summer. For complete listings, descriptions, and schedules, click here.
Open seven days a week, 24 hours a day, Lestat's Coffee House curates a menu of café favorites, from sandwiches and salads to coffee, tea, and smoothies. Brave baristas concoct the espresso latte ($2.50–$3.75) and the cappuccino ($2.25–$3.60) using Diedrich coffee. A special menu of house hot drinks soothes the senses with combinations including caramel and Mexican chocolate in the Dulcé Mexican mocha ($3.50–$4.75) and peppermint, chocolate, and a disarmingly attractive sense of sarcasm in the Peppermint Patty ($3.50-$4.75). On the chillier side, fruit smoothies, such as the pineapple-, mango-, and banana-packed Hawaiian Vacation ($4.50), set apart surf-ready stomachs, or sustenance seekers can fill the hungry stomach inside their regular stomach with a succinct menu of sandwiches ($4.50-$7.95), house-made soups ($4.25–$5.75), and salads ($4–$6.50).
Celebrating its seventh year, the SDCCU Poinsettia Bowl pits a pair of conference champions against each other in an annual postseason slugfest for gridiron supremacy. Making their third Poinsettia Bowl appearance, Mountain West Conference standout TCU Horned Frogs bound into Qualcomm Stadium on the heels of an impressive 10-win regular season. Quarterback Casey Pachall captains a quick-strike TCU offense, and All-Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year Tank Carder anchors a linebacker core that allows no runner past the line of scrimmage without first demanding an up-to-date passport.
