Dermea Laser Skin Care is not a spa. It’s not a salon. And it’s definitely not one of those places where they make mediocre burgers but people still go because the servers pretend to be rude to you. But it is the aesthetics branch of Get Well Clinics, which means it relies on medical-grade equipment and procedures to remove body hair and refresh the skin. One such piece of equipment is the LightSheer diode laser system, a popular machine that can remove hair from all six types of skin on the Fitzpatrick scale. Another is the microdermabrasion machine, which reduces the appearance of wrinkles, acne, and scars, especially when it’s coupled with the alpha-hydroxy acids of the clinic’s glycolic peels.
Under the salon’s contrasting tones of bubblegum and black licorice, the team at The Beauty Bar Salon & Boutique works to treat clients with a complete menu of salon services. Owner Tia Gunn leads the team while lending her expertise in the areas of coloring, cutting, styling, and applying extensions. In addition to providing hair services for both men and women, the specialists offer skincare services to cleanse and nourish pores, nail services to brighten hands, and waxing services to show dolphins the real masters of the sea.
Clad in clean, white lab coats, the licensed aestheticians at Skin Renew Laser & Vein Clinic use lasers to target tufts of body hair, spider veins, and wrinkles. Dermal fillers firm the face, and blue-light photodynamic therapy destroys the bacteria that exacerbate acne. Medical aestheticians and nurses also proffer pharmaceutical-grade skincare products from Obagi to maintain healthy skin at home or on planets where the atmosphere is too thin to dampen the sun's rays.
Although he had already been a successful stylist for years when it took place, the thing that solidified John Nelson as a top-notch professional was a training stint he spent in Rome, Italy, where he absorbed European techniques that he brought back to his own salon in the United States. Now guests of John Nelson Salon and Spa enjoy the benefit of these and other techniques—such as Global Keratin treatments and color services—within a workspace where lime-green accents punctuate slate-gray walls and floors. Chocolaty hues coat the spa area, where licensed technicians unpack pores with Alleia skincare products and drive away cellulite with herbal detoxifiers and repurposed breakup speeches.
After honing her skills as a managing partner at the Body Enhancement Center in Paducah, Kentucky, Elizabeth Harris took the reins at the second location in Franklin. Once she actually purchased the business, she moved to a larger building and expanded services to include lypossage, oxygen treatments, body wraps, and her own body-contouring creation, CelluSleek. Harris also created her own skincare line, Alleia Skin, based on the legend of Alleia, the siren who discovered five natural streams in Capri.
With the goal of bettering body image, the spa staffers perform massages, facials, and body wraps. They also use the Medilift system, which targets stubborn fatty areas and is championed by celebrity speaker Robin McGraw. The newly installed Celebrity Room accommodates up to four simultaneous services during business events, social gatherings, or sweet-16 parties. Old-World European decor, complimentary wine and cheese, and a lack of pickpocketing chimpanzees cultivate an atmosphere of hospitality and relaxation.
Different clients may choose the same treatment from Belledonne Spa’s menu, but the spa’s focus on custom skin and body solutions ensures that no two experiences are quite alike. Though the massage menu includes specialized techniques for athletes and expectant moms, its two anchors are the Swedish and deep-tissue massages, each of which is tailored to clients’ preferred pressures.
The spa’s aestheticians match their nimble-fingered counterparts’ concern for customized care. Before embarking on a facial, they survey the skin’s topography to identify its specific needs. Then they pull from a wide array of therapies that include advanced microdermabrasion treatments, ultrasound technologies, and chemical peels that exfoliate as vigorously as skin will allow. Their therapies aren’t just skin-deep, however: Lumicell Touch body-contouring treatments work to reduce cellulite with a blend of collagen-boosting LED light, skin-smoothing rollers, and vacuums that suck up pennies lodged between back muscles.
