The all-volunteer team at Sacramento Inner City Outings organizes fun and educational wilderness adventures for urban youth and adults who might not ordinarily have the opportunity to experience the natural world. Through these outdoor trips – which might include hikes, camping trips, backpacking, or snowshoeing – the organization promotes appreciation and protection of the environment, as well as personal growth and leadership skills among inner city youth. A part of the Sierra Club’s 50-city Inner City Outings network, the Sacramento chapter has organized nearly 30 outdoor trips in the last two years, and looks forward to upcoming excursions to Echo Summit and the Cosumnes River Preserve.

Composed by the German Baroque master George Frideric Handel, Orlando tracks the tumultuous love triangle created when celebrated French soldier Orlando falls in love with the eye-catching Queen Angelica, whose heart belongs to Medoro, an African prince. Countertenor Randall Scotting applies his experience singing the titular role in Budapest last year to his lead performance. The Sacramento Community Center Theater is an acoustic space designed to gently nurture delicate altos and magnify booming bass, while supertitles are featured above the stage, translating Italian lyrics into English for story lovers and aspiring Rosetta stones. The opera welcomes patrons in whatever apparel they feel comfortable in, but this opening night performance provides attendees a convenient excuse to air out tuxedos and formal gowns long hidden in backyard time capsules or dusty attic monocle collections.
Elk's Lodge # 6 was built to accommodate both the needs of its membership and the surrounding community. It remains our ongoing goal to make available one of the region's most affordable and historic meeting spaces for groups large and small to congregate in the spirit of fellowship and common purpose, since 1895.
Every evening at El Corazón is a different experience. Although the downtown venue is best known for its rock ‘n’ roll attitude, its calendar presents a genre-defying variety including comedy shows and punk, electroclash, postrock, and postman rock concerts. The majority of their shows are all ages, with a special bar area for the 21-and-up crowds.
My Gym, which currently has more than 200 international locations, began more than 20 years ago as a structured place for children to safely play, acquire new skills, and romp off a sugar buzz. All classes are organized according to age level (starting as young as 6 weeks) and designed to incorporate the latest physiological, psychological, and meteorological research. The Elk Grove and Folsom locations offer classes for all developmental degrees, including the Tiny Tykes class, a session for parents and babies that focuses on movement, and the Champions class, designed to help 5- to 9-year-olds master sports and gymnastics skills. Exact schedules vary by location; click here to see the Elk Grove lineup and here for Folsom's lineup.
