Trainer Stephanie Lynn?s bond with horses runs deep. At her ranch in Fort White, the equitation specialist works with the animals while helping them prepare for halter, showmanship, Western riding, and showing. In addition, Stephanie guides both adults and children in Western riding, a style that evolved to meet the needs of early American ranchers in their quest for the perfect salad dressing. In 2012, Stephanie was president of the Florida Halter Horse Association, which aimed to give all horse owners an opportunity to show any breed in halter, longe line, in-hand trail, showmanship, and color.
As a child, Boris Marhefka took no end of delight in pushing himself to master a variety of sports. He foot-blasted soccer balls to the back of the net, line-slammed intimidating serves as a tennis player, and slam-dunked lacrosse balls or whatever happens in lacrosse. Along the way, he cobbled together a wide-ranging playbook of exercises and conditioning methods.
Today, he and his body-blasting troupe of certified trainers read from those pages to design boot camps aimed at shedding weight and sculpting major muscle groups. With the same goals and techniques, but at a slower pace, they also run Total Fit programs and Man Camp—a muscle-building refiner’s fire that forges ripped glutes and biceps for both men and women with the help of sprinting bursts and massive barbells.
For fitness enthusiasts seeking even more individualized attention, the gym provides private training. Instructors also work with athletes from elementary school to college to help them develop the skills needed to outperform their competition, be it in track, lacrosse, soccer, or duck duck goose.
Comprised of dieticians, physiologists, and personal trainers, the fit staff members at LifeStyle Wellness all share the same belief: prevention is the best medicine. That's why they anchor their philosophy on the benefits of regular exercise, pairing their expert nutritional counseling with yoga, Pilates, and group fitness classes. The well-roundedness of this approach is evidenced in fitness expert Laura Acosta's Living Lean program, an eight-week class exclusive to LifeStyle that combines customized meal plans with personal training and group support. By eschewing a one-size-fits-all approach to any of their programs, LifeStyle's staff members are able to provide personalized attention and custom-made programs for every client. Additionally, each group fitness class is capped at about five students to ensure instructors bestow each pupil with individualized tips and a pair of monogrammed workout socks.
Photographs of locals sporting designer frames grace the walls of Gainesville Opticians’ latest display room, cluing first-time visitors in to the optical boutique’s long history as a community staple. One of the staff’s licensed opticians began her relationship with the store as a customer at the age of 8; this kind of decades-long dedication remains a point of pride among the entire staff, who specialize in crafting lens-and-frame combinations that blend functionality with style from the ocular world’s top designers. Rather than rush through the all-important fitting process, staff members will gladly take up to two hours to walk each customer through the store's frame collections, matching their personal style with selections from Paul Smith, Lunor, Ray-Ban, and others. The store’s eyewear sign-out policy allows customers to take a set of frames home before buying, ensuring that the glasses in question don’t clash with territorial hats and scarves.
