The gritty, dirty fun of mud runs has become popular among runners, but the creators of The Slime Run thought they could improve on the formula. So in their races, they replace that mix of water and wet earth with their own custom formula: a green, slick slime that inevitably covers runners as they navigate a 5K course. After conquering each of four slime zones, they're presented with a relatively simple obstacle, but one whose objective is more difficult when you're coated in slime.
Of course, there's more fun to be had than just getting messy. At the finish line, a runner's party with food vendors, a beer garden, and live music awaits race finishers, as do perks: race medals, mugs, and headbands. At the end of the day, the emphasis is as much on safety as it is on fun, which is why each batch of slime is mixed from hypoallergenic, edible materials and not material left over from the set of Ghostbusters II.
It's a clear day, the blue sky stretching on into the distant horizon. Over a nearby hill, a strange shape appears. Round and colorful, it floats serenely, leaving viewers on the ground to wonder if they've somehow stepped into Around the World in 80 Days. This isn't science fiction, of course. It's just another day for the operators at California Balloon Rides. Since 1975, they've maintained one of southern California's finest hot air balloon fleets. Using a mixture of time-tested know-how and modern aerostatic innovations, they lead breathtaking tours over the rolling hills of Perris-Temecula Valley. Trips are leisurely affairs, with pre-flight snacks and celebratory post-flight champagne toasts along with breakfast at the airport cafe, adding extra bits of luxury to already memorable outings.
Flyboard riders fly yards above the waves, held aloft by the downward-facing, more-than 200-horsepower jets of water issuing from their boards' bases. It sounds like a complicated process, but really, flyboarding and walking take roughly the same amount of coordination—newbies typically learn the basics in 5 minutes and more complex tricks in 15. The learning process is especially user-friendly at Aquaflyboarding USA, where a team of certified flyboard instructors start each flight with a safety overview. Then, they coach flights in real-time.

The Great Urban Race is a one-day event pitting teams of two against one another in a race combining physical challenges, scavenger hunts, and puzzles. Up to 700 twosomes will traverse 4 to 8 miles of Toronto terrain on foot and by public transportation as they solve 12 challenging clues in a fun quest to reach the finish line first. Sample clues and challenges from past Great Urban Races include charades, bubble-gum chewing, pig Latin deciphering, bicycle races, and word scrambles, making this race ideal for competitive eaters and cryptographers alike. Teams are encouraged to dress up in matching outfits, and prizes will be awarded for best costume. Prizes are also given for race results, with $300 going to first place, $200 to second place, and $100 to third place. The top 25 teams will qualify for the National Championship in New Orleans in November, with the top three teams receiving free entry. Each participant gets a T-shirt and postrace refreshments of fruit, granola bars, and a run through a Perrier sprinkler. Read over the rules and FAQs for more information.
