The certified instructors of Zumba on Wheels pack up their fancy-footed dance moves and kick off aerobics parties at nearly any location or event. Demonstrating the workout's signature cardio steps set to Latin-inspired music, mobile hosts add rhythmic pizzazz to birthday parties, gym routines, corporate gatherings, and State of the Union addresses. Their collective energy creates an electric and supportive atmosphere as students shimmy along to multiple Zumba variations, including traditional Zumba, Zumba Toning, and ZumbAtomic for kids.
World-renowned and highly regarded, The Princeton Review helps prepare students for getting into college, law school, and grad school through a fleet of exam-prep classes. They conduct math reviews, reading sessions, and writing exercises that pair pupils with weighted pens. In addition to leading group classes, the teachers offer in-person and online private-tutoring services, which are customized to each pupil's learning needs.
With its plush couch and bookcase stocked with esoteric objects, the stage at Side Splitters Comedy Club might make audiences feel as though they’re watching the evening’s comedian in their own living room, right down to the emcee who keeps announcing what’s about to happen. The homey stage’s brick walls and off-kilter neon sign have played host to numerous local comedians, as well as talents such as Tom Arnold and Gilbert Gottfried.
Tampa's Cinco de Mayo Fiesta is a cultural cornucopia celebrating the Mexican holiday with music, dancing, food, activities, children's attractions, and a car and motorcycle show. Follow the incipient online schedule—or flip through the Facebook page—for the still-developing calendar, which includes events such as salsa-dancing lessons, a tongue-tickling chili contest, and the glamorous Miss Tampa Latina pageant. During the daily happy hour 3 p.m.–6 p.m., thirsty guests can enjoy one free beer. Take in a salsa lesson, then meander over to the other salsa camp, where recently steadied shoulders will be tested against fiery tortilla-toppers at the salsa tasting station. While proud car owners buff their road babies for Friday's car and motorcycle show, their flesh-based brood can clamber (supervised) through the children's area and carnival rides.
Produced by the Davis Islands Chamber of Commerce, the second annual Bluz & BBQ event sates senses with live music and barbecue from local vendors, contributing to the fundraising effort for the revitalization of the historic Roy Jenkins Pool, a Davis Islands landmark. Like any good roast-beef market, the currency at Bluz & BBQ comes in the form of Little Piggie Bucks, which are valid for a number of menu items including Yuengling drafts ($3), Cigar City Brewery drafts ($4), and barbecue plates ($6–$12). Event attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and a picnic blanket that doubles as a giant handkerchief to the event, ensuring comfort and cleanliness during six live blues performances from musicians such as Damon Fowler, a roots-rock virtuoso and Florida native.
Linden Galleries' abundant selection of original artwork (starting at $20), print reproductions (starting at $20), and customized-framing solutions offer unlimited options with which to finally cover the shame of your scandalously exposed walls. Custom framing (starting at $50) is completed on-site in their Carrollwood Village gallery and comes with a choice of regular or acid-free matting and four types of glass (regular, reflection control, Plexiglas, and UV-shielding conservation glass) encased by the frame of your choice, from among Linden's 5,000-strong collection. Linden's talented framesmiths are also trained extensively in the frame-healing arts (starting at $20) and regularly employ their magical powers to mend fractured frames, fuse fissures in broken glass, and resurrect the lifelike vibrancy of sun-faded and mead-damaged photographs and mats.
The Beach Beast Challenge invites runners of all fitness levels to dress in wacky costumes and journey across sun-soaked sands in search of personal glory and awards. Those who complete the course will be awarded finishers' medals and entry to the Beast Lounge for an after-race party to celebrate their accomplishment with music. Top racers also receive additional awards, as do those judged to have the best costumes.
