Few people own a trademark. Dr. Jerry Darm of Aesthetic Medicine owns three. He pioneered the trademark procedures of LaserLift and LipoLift, which use noninvasive and minimally invasive techniques, respectively, to smooth fine lines and banish excess fat. To add to his repertoire, Dr. Darm added a third trademarked treatment: MiniLift. His accomplishments have led to invitations from aesthetic medical professionals around the world?including a 14-day trip to China to speak about his treatments at conferences in several cities.

The LaserLift procedure reverses damage caused by exposure to the sun, free radicals, and gravity malfunctions by regenerating collagen and tightening the skin with laser wavelengths. LipoLift destroys fat with a laser that melts fat cells through a small incision and allows them to be removed more gently than with traditional liposuction. The MiniLift is performed only by a board-certified plastic surgeon and is available only at Aesthetic Medicine. At the Lake Oswego location, which boasts more than 14,000 square feet, Dr. Darm helps patients feel beautiful in other ways, including combating spider veins with laser therapy or sclerotherapy and keeping wrinkles at bay with injectable fillers. The center's weight-loss program helps patients shed pounds under the guidance of medical specialists and dieticians.

Though they didn't always know it, Katie Maclaskey and Noelle Bertram have been complementing each other's fitness interests for much of their lives. As children, they sharpened their motor skills on the slopes and by the surf, respectively: Katie tackled snow sports while Noelle jogged, rollerbladed, and steered soccerballs across California's beaches. Their families owned neighboring restaurants, yet the girls didn't personally connect until they met on a run and realized their shared enthusiasm for exercise. When they both moved to Portland years later, they decided to combine their knowledge and drive to lead other women toward better physical health.

As certified personal trainers and owners of Adventure Boot Camp, Katie and Noelle invent their own workouts within the renowned franchise. They might craft outdoor obstacle courses, cardio circuits, or core-tightening drills for their students, but the encouraging spirit of their lessons never varies—the Lake Oswego Review lauds the "atmosphere of enjoyment and achievement" that pervades every camp session. In their leadership roles, the girls also continue to play off of each other's strengths for their clients' benefit. Katie has earned her ISSA certification as a nutritional consultant, and Noelle is a Sivananda-certified yoga instructor, which means they can show students how to simultaneously cook and balance atop a head of cabbage.

At Adorned Aesthetics, even the most familiar of skincare treatments, the facial, contains some surprises; the center's roster of nine different facials includes three services specifically designed for men as well as a Just Like Heaven exfoliation and massage treatment that lasts a full two hours. Two other services make use of some rare materials: the 24 kt. gold facial uses a gold serum and mask to reverse oxidation damage, and the Diamond Exfolight facial removes dead skin using the diamond-soled shoes that inspired Paul Simon to become a cobbler. When serums fall short, clients turn to the Bio-Roller, an FDA-approved micro-needle rolling system that treats wrinkles and acne without inflicting the downtime associated with surgery.

The spa can offer all of these treatments thanks to the expertise of Melanie Hamilton and Kathryn Hoffman, who are professionally certified and trained by Obagi Pharmaceutical Skin Care. This company also provides a few of the specialized products that they use during treatments on a variety of skin issues. Melanie and Kathryn, who are also trained in the formal modalities of the Valmont skincare line from Switzerland, stay sharp by attending classes, seminars, and conventions in the industry.

The staff members at The Qi Spot share a philosophy centered around creating a gentle environment to help patients to forget everyday stressors and focus on bringing their bodies into balance. The practitioners specialize in traditional Chinese medicine therapies, including acupuncture, herbal remedies, and naturopathic counseling, to relieve pain and aid in healing after auto accidents. Cupping, cosmetic acupuncture, and moxa also help to inspire a healthy flow of chi. Improving energy circulation, like rotating the skeleton's tires, helps to prevent pain and illness by encouraging the body to function smoothly.

The Oregonian has written about the holistic hub, and co-owner Wade McCulloch performed facial acupuncture on television in front of a live studio audience for AM Northwest. The practice also shows a commitment to helping others by providing community acupuncture to clients without health insurance and by contributing to the Harambee Center, a Portland-based organization that supports Kenyan communities.

Most people fall in love at some point in college, and Bill Edmund was no exception. He can still recall how his heartstrings tightened when, in 1983, he was introduced to the classical guitar. As his burgeoning career in geology led him to Louisiana and California, Edmund carved out time to pursue classical and flamenco guitar. While studying new fingerpicking techniques and improving his musicianship, he managed to accumulate a sizable collection of fine and rare guitars. In 2010, this collection helped him to open Vintage Guitars International, where he now devotes his full attention to the love he first discovered back in college. As one of the top guitar retailers in the Northwest, Edmund’s guitar emporium stocks a selection of classical and flamenco guitars and ukuleles crafted by luthiers from across North America and Europe. Alongside its most sought-after instruments, the store also sells intro-level guitars, sheet music, books, and cases—each of which includes a complimentary air guitar.

Though beautiful views and impeccable maintenance are typically found at long, difficult courses, the staff at Lake Oswego Golf Course believes that beginning and intermediate players should also be able to enjoy a top-notch course while learning the game. At 2,517 yards in total, the 18-hole, par-3 layout removes the physical stress of extreme length. Players can learn to hone in their game while golfing against the backdrop of Mount St. Helens and Mount Adams. Individual holes range between 74 and 179 yards, creating a hole-in-one opportunity on every tee box?provided a golfer can avoid Lost Dog Creek, outstretched tree boughs, and lost center fielders searching for fly balls.

Away from the links, golfers can refuel at the course's on-site restaurant, Casa del Pollo. Here, they can feast on home-style Costa Rican food, including chicken and steak tacos, burritos, and casado con carne?a grilled steak fillet atop a plate of rice, beans, pickled onions, and carrots.
