Running in Lake Stevens

Run or Dye is making race running a little more colorful, one major city at a time. This 5K is divided up into four separate courses of varying lengths, each designated by a separate color??which also reflects the color of safe, eco-friendly powered dye the participants get splashed with. At the end of the race, they'll cross into the aptly-named Dye Zone?a polychromatic free-for-all, where fluorescent color is thrown freely from all sides, allowing runners to splash their fellow runners or get colorful revenge on their friends, family members, and any cranky art-history teachers that happen to be walking by. Unlike some races that rank runners by time, Run or Dye only measures success in color and fun. While the safe-to-eat dyes should wash out of clothing, runners are encouraged to wear things they don't mind getting dirty, preferably in white, gray, or another neutral color to give the dyes maximum visibility.

Like a city street after every nearby car wash has malfunctioned, The Bubble Run welcomes participants to play in light, glistening foam. Runners, walkers, jumpers, and skippers cruise their way through five easygoing, untimed kilometers, each marked with a 6-foot-deep bog brimming with colorful foam and floating bubbles. Bubbleteers armed with foam-slinging cannons ensure that each adventurer receives a healthy dose of bubbles as they pass, running safely thanks to the dry makeup of the foam solution used. Racers clad in white may start clean as a whistle, but by the time they cross the finish line, they’re dyed like a rainbow, finally readying them to sneak up on a leprechaun. Then the fun keeps going—live DJs and bubble cannons amp up afterparties to celebrate runners' efforts. Proceeds from each race benefit local charities.

The instructors at Sky Valley Academy help children build confidence and self esteem through gymnastics, cheerleading, and stunting classes geared toward students of all levels. School-year classes let kids blow off some academic steam with afternoon and evening sessions, while summer camps can keep kids busy and engaged all day long. In cheerleading and stunting classes, kids learn positions, jumps, hip-hop moves, and tumbling before integrating all their new skills into a routine sure to make nearby sports teams instinctively win their games. Party packages are also available for active kids and their guests to frolic on such attractions as trampolines, a tumbling pit, and bouncy castles before digging into a themed birthday cake.

Young Life is a Christian ministry with branches around the world, all dedicated to a simple goal: supporting kids throughout the confusions of adolescence. That process hinges on a huge pool of adult mentors willing to hang out with kids on the kids' turf, whether that's soccer practice, the mall, or meetings of the PG-13 Movie Club. The ministry also hosts events, such as weekly parties and summer camps, where kids learn the fundamentals of Christianity along with key leadership and decision-making skills.

Most 5Ks feature participants in sweat-wicking T-shirts and shorts sprinting toward the finish line. But The Sweater Dash is different. During the fun run, runners and walkers don ugly sweaters to ring in the holiday season. Following the festive jaunt, participants head to the Ugly Sweater Party to celebrate their achievement with live music and holiday food. To add to the merriment, the event includes an award ceremony for Ugliest Sweater and a meet-and-greet with Santa, during which the winner of the Ugliest Sweater award can ask him for more stylish clothing.
