"[I like] helping clients feel better, so they can enjoy life with a few less aches and pains," says David Brown, owner of Elements Massage Alderwood. To that end, he often recommends clients sign up for an 80-minute session with one of the seven massage therapists in his employ. The sizeable chunk of time allows them to focus on particularly troubling areas of tension or pain, while still making sure to work on the rest of the body, as well. To David, the best compliment he or his therapists can receive come from clients noticing the benefits of their work: increased range of motion, reduced pain, and a diminished fear of how much hands look like spiders.

In 1976, Margaret Dunlap, who had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, began working with riding instructor Debra Powell. Over time, Dunlap realized that horseback riding seemed to ameliorate the effects of the disease. She joined forces with Powell to form a therapeutic horseback-riding program in the community. Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center has come a long way since then, expanding from 5 to 250 riders, who participate in hippotherapy and adaptive-riding sessions each week.

Working with horses helps riders with disabilities gain muscle strength, prevent bone weakness, and improve balance and hand-eye coordination. Riding also offers a fun outdoor activity and an opportunity to socialize with other participants. Set on 4.5 acres of rural land, the Little Bit facility houses 19 program horses in a 20-stall barn. Horse and rider meet once a week to navigate nearby trails, providing people with physical, cognitive, and emotional disabilities a chance to exercise and bond with the animals.

Gig Harbor Chiropractic & Massage is helmed by husband-and-wife doctor duo Greg and Keri Messer, two graduates of Western States Chiropractic College who set out together to annihilate pain one spine at a time. One of the doctors or their skilled staff members will begin your exam with a conversation about your back bothers and health habits. Next, you'll receive a complete chiropractic examination that tests your reflexes, flexibility, posture, and more, followed by a computerized spinal assessment to discover if any disks are bulging, shoulders are slumping, or vertebrae have forgotten the state capitals. If a bit of extra dorsal detective work is required, you'll receive up to two x-rays before the doctor reports his or her findings and recommendations for any necessary treatment.
