At Jungle Games Paintball, the acres of playing fields are littered with abandoned transport vehicles that set the stage for action-packed gaming. Defunct helicopters serve as sniping stations, and hollowed-out vans provide a place for opponents to duck for cover or take a break to plan their financial futures. As players navigate around trees in one of Extreme Paintball's six wooded fields, they take aim with rented Tippmann 98 markers upon catching sight of opponents. At Off the Wall Adventures, players explore 15 acres of play area, including a three-story fort and five-man speedball field designed to test players' stamina and skill.
Nestled on the shores of the eponymous southern Florida lake, Lake Okeechobee Resort is an ideal base camp for outdoor recreation. Popular pursuits here include bass fishing, boating, and hiking or bicycling along a segment of the 1,400-mile Florida Trail that wends around the lake’s perimeter. You can set off into the lake from the resort’s 100-slip marina. From its location on the southeastern side of the lake, the resort has a spot to watch sunsets over the water.
For those camping, Lake Okeechobee Resort has especially long lots for oversized RVs or sleeping bags designed for giraffes. An onsite restaurant, public bathrooms, and pool take the edge off of roughing it while staying at the campground or in the cabins.
Helmed by Captain Charles Davis, Flatmasters Fishing Adventures offers guided, all-inclusive fishing trips to anglers of all levels. For any of the company's half- or full-day excursions, clients climb into a kayak already loaded with necessary equipment, including rods, reels, and live or artificial bait. Out on the water, instructors divulge tips for reeling in catches and working around irked fish who sit and tap their "No Soliciting" signs. The company's educational opportunities stretch beyond fishing, too, with basic kayaking lessons.
Captain Anthony Leverett, the man behind Kingdom Business Charters, has fished the waters around Tampa Bay for more than 15 years. After casting countless lines, he mastered the finer points of catching snapper, grouper, kingfish, and cobia. Today, he passes this expertise onto others during fishing charters aboard his deep blue, 1988 classic Pro-Line fishing boat. The vessel features an illuminated cockpit and underwater LED lights, which allow Captain Leverett to fish at night or on days when the sun calls in sick.
A fleet of ATVs, Jeep 4x4s, and dune buggies carries passengers on wild, pavement-free rides through more than 240 acres of Floridian tropics at Revolution, The Off-Road Experience. Behind the wheel of a Jeep, or the 8-wheeled amphibious vehicle called the Mucky Duck, drivers can wheel up man made steps instead of looking for a nearby escalator. Alternately, the company?s local body of water, Revolution Lake, lets adventurers take advantage of 60 acres of sport fishing, where they can catch, photograph, and release specimens such as largemouth bass, croppies, snook, and bowfin.
With its toothy alligators and mangrove-filled swamplands, the Florida Everglades is rife with uniquely American landscape and folklore. At Big Toho Airboat Rides, visitors can speed through the storied wetlands aboard airboats powered by brawny aircraft engines. From their perch, they'll search for glimpses of the area's famous wildlife, keeping eyes open for eagles, osprey, and deer donning rain boots. They'll also witness large Florida alligators in their natural habitat, even posing with a smaller alligator for a memorable photo op.
