Besides making clients happy, what do you like most about your job?
I love the joy of giving customized rejuvenation time. Every client has the opportunity for introspection and is in charge of their own therapy, so I can better facilitate their pathway to more functional muscle health. Each person is unique and offers me new insights about bodywork in my practice. I'm really blessed to have such a fulfilling career where I can explore new techniques and have fun doing what I love.
How did you get started in the beauty industry? Did you have an "ah-ha" moment in life?
Around 2006 I was completely directionless about what i wanted to do with my life. All of my friends, family, and acquaintances were in agreement that I was calm and centered, and into holistic information and application, so they suggested massage as the perfect career for me.
I was rather taken aback. [At the time], I had only received one or two [massages], which was quite a luxury for me. I hadn't thought of massage as a "health" avenue, but as a option for the elite. I took a risk and signed up for massage school when college didn't pan out for me. I couldn't be more happy with the choice I made. I am still learning so much. The new modalities and practical applications never end, which is what keeps me enthusiastic about my massage and bodywork practice.
Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?
I am absolutely passionate about the organic lifestyle. I live and breathe it to the point of obnoxiousness to some. However, it is a subject that deserves more public education than I alone can give it. The world must soon see the importance of a toxic-free environment for all.
I believe with all my heart we as people don't vote at the polls, but with our dollars. This is why I will only use the highest quality organic massage oils, essential oil blends, and even organic cotton sheets in my practice. I also hand make organic exfoliating and deep cleansing salt scrubs. We all deserve the best and purest from nature, and to ensure we keep getting it, I, for one, will continue to buy organic no matter the cost. The more who join in, the less toxic our planet will end up for future generations.
For years, bookkeeper and mother Christy Hunter harbored a deep passion for skincare. Now a trained aesthetician, Christy shares this passion with others as the founder of Cherri Bomb Advanced Skin Care. With a keen understanding of how stress and everyday life can take its toll on skin, she helps rejuvenate clients with a variety of services. For instance, she uses Rhonda Allison skincare products during facials to reduce inflammation, boost collagen production, or dramatically brighten skin tone. Alternately, Christy can perform chemical peels or microdermabrasion treatments to exfoliate skin and smooth away fine lines, pigmented blemishes, and extra sticky name tags.

Each stylist and cosmetologist brings their own personal flair to the salon's services. For instance, aesthetician Elvia Reinhart concocts coconut lime facial peels and hydrating masks infused with champagne, roses, and Shakespearean sonnets. Others, Jennifer included, are armed to tame unruly tresses with such brand name products as Wella and Paul Mitchell, or to help clients revamp their look with all-over color. The only thing more polished than Avenue Nails & Spa's interior are the freshly painted nails exiting its doors. Warm woods and glowing globe lanterns create a warm inviting atmosphere, while ergonomic manicure chairs and luxury human-touch pedicure chairs swathe clients in modern comfort. And, to guests waiting for or enjoying a treatment, Avenue Nails & Spa provides complimentary beverages such as wine, coffee, or soda for adults or a juice box for kids or anyone in touch with their inner child. But things don't just look polished on the surface: the spa requires medical-grade sterilization of all implements, disposal of one-time-use supplies, and strict cleaning protocols to protect client health during all services, from mani-pedis, to facials, to eyelash extensions.
A bubbling fountain greets guests outside Face To Face Spa, instantly replacing the din of the city with the burble of flowing water. This relaxing atmosphere extends to the interior, where an elegant chandelier hangs over a gracefully curving wooden reception desk and floor-to-ceiling windows dressed in diaphanous cream curtains let in natural light.
The spa may be designed to be more calming than a nap in a kangaroo's pouch, but it still takes its skincare very seriously. The nurses who direct the med spa rely on treatments designed to get results, including 10 different chemical peels, IPL photofacials, ultrasonic therapy, and dermal fillers. They use many dermatologist-recommended brands, such as Obagi, Dermalogica, and jane iredale mineral makeup.
