Frizzy hair turns sleek and shiny at the hands of Sammy P. Salon and Spa’s stylists, who carry certifications in coloring, extensions, and keratin-straightening treatments. The beauty specialists pull serums, shampoos, and styling gels from high-quality product lines such as Pureology and Redken during appointments, which permit clients to bring their own favorite drinks or puréed entrees. In addition to color and cuts, the staff performs a host of other cosmetic services, including nailcare, makeup, hair removal, and spray tanning, which enlists the Norvell spray-tan system to leave bodies with a sun-kissed glow.
Master stylist, educator, and platform artist Nina Grossman traveled the country before settling in Texas. Over the course of 16 years, she honed her skills from Alaska to New York, landing in Austin in 2007 to open Luxe A Boutique Salon. Throughout her career, Grossman has mentored up-and-coming beauty pros on the art of hair design as well as the importance of listening to clients' needs and reinterpretations of show-tune classics. She's gathered a team of master stylists and color specialists, makeup artists, and aestheticians to perform services that range from haircuts and highlights to peels and threading.
Her salon's exposed-brick walls and leather chairs lend it sophistication, and damask-like patterns juxtaposed with animal prints nod to both vintage and contemporary sensibilities. In a private, chocolate-toned skincare room, associates perform fragrant facials with Éminence Organic Skin Care products, soothing complexions in the way the floral artwork soothes the mind. Afterward, women can shop for apparel and accessories in the boutique area or head to the outdoor patio to relax before reemerging into the world.
Not far from Lakeway in Bee Cave, bellezza sports more than a dozen specialized salon staffers—each a master of hair, skin, or demolitions—and two massage therapists committed to the full satisfaction of every client. Your salonsperience begins with a style consultation to determine whom you're expressing and how, and perhaps how to do it differently or better. From there, bellezza's beauty dispensers will suds up your hair, wash out any bad breakups that have accumulated there, and massage your scalp until it is relaxed enough to be cut and Technicolored. Bellezza's well-handed massage therapists will let the rest of your body in on the TLC with a 30-minute Swedish massage, during which they'll handily dispatch your stubborn, stuck-in stress using long, kneading strokes, gentle pressure, and random shouts of "Relax!"
Within the green and blue walls of Day Lily Hair and Nail Salon, guests sip complimentary beverages and peruse magazines as they await the start of spa services. Massaging pedicure thrones gently relax backs as technicians beautify toes with traditional or Shellac polish. Free WiFi access lets hairstylists' clients download images of their favorite celebrity ’dos or Fraggle Rock characters to inspire haircuts and color services. The crew also waxes away unwanted hair and customizes facials with Dr Irena Eris products.
By the age of 10, Katie Sassen knew what she wanted: a career in the beauty business. She attended cosmetology school and went on to train at the Vidal Sassoon academy in Santa Monica, California. Sassen made a name for herself as a hairstylist in Hollywood, where she also discovered that she had a creative eye for fashion. She launched her own clothing line, which was sold in boutiques in Melrose, Beverly Hills, and Laguna Beach, before deciding to meld her love of hair and clothing design by opening Sassen Boutique & Hair Salon in Texas. She hasn't left all the glitz and glamour behind, however—Sassen travels to the West Coast every six–eight weeks to round up new apparel, including Spring 2012 looks that caught the eye of KEYE TV.
After appointments for services such as cuts, color, straightening treatments, or mani-pedis, guests can browse the boutique area for a whimsical straw sun hat or a pair of ballet flats. The crew can prepare arms and legs to wear one of the shop's one-shoulder dresses with an airbrush spray tan. The formula's active ingredient is DHA, a nontoxic sugar often derived from sugar beets, sugar cane, or recycled Candy Land boards.
A sextet of trend-spotting stylists pampers locks in Shear Headcase’s cozy cottage, where hanging art and live bamboo shimmer off polished wood floors. Beneath a canopy of backlit parasols, stylists first swaddle strands in a cleansing coat of shampoo from an opulent line of products from brands including Surface, Davines, and Woody's. Next, blow-driers impart the entire mane with the balanced glow of a judge's nightlight.
