Racing go-karts and glowing laser battles simultaneously challenge and entertain visitors inside iPlay America's 115,000-square-foot amusement facility. Like its outdoor cousins, the indoor fun park houses more than 200 motorized attractions and carnival-style games for the whole family. Interactive amusements, such as the iPA Speedway, place patrons in the driver's seat of a real vehicle, and simulated sessions, including the Kite Flyer, tantalize visual senses with video images and sound effects. Scents of fresh pizza, lobster mac 'n' cheese, and hotdogs waft from five nourishment purveyors.
Ready to jump-start its ninth championship season, Formula Drift rallies together some of the world's top angular autoists for two full days of supersonic sliding. Defending champion Daijiro Yoshihara returns to protect his title against a talent-packed field of both new and veteran drivers, each of whom will test their ability to steer through tight spaces while maintaining eye-popping speeds atop the track's infamous butter-slicked pavement.
Fueled by a desire to offer their clients fun and motivating ways to stay active, The Action Room's instructors lead myriad classes, from ballroom dancing to country line dancing to Zumba fitness. For those preparing for a wedding or formal touchdown celebration, the instructors teach private and group dance lessons that cover all the major ballroom moves. In addition to leading dance-focused classes, the instructors set pupils' hearts pumping during fitness-based classes that include cardio kickboxing, TRX suspension training, and yoga. High-octane boot camps prepare bodies for the beach, and tummy-centered Pilates workouts help patrons build solid core muscles to deflect any flailing limbs on the dance floor.
Since 1962, Ocean Ice Palace has given youngsters the opportunity to lace up their skates and participate in the healthy, active outlets of ice skating and hockey. The center is the vision of Dr. Leon J. Dwulet, who oversaw the building of the facility and whose daughter runs the show today. In keeping with its founding mission, the rink takes hockey seriously. Not only do instructors coach beginners through skating and hockey clinics, but the rink hosts several traveling teams and even furnishes hockey campers with dormitories in which to sleep. The rink also invites more casual skaters to visit for public skating sessions on weekends and holidays.
Bally enshrines exercise classes, calorie-burning equipment, and a fitness-focused staff within its sanctuaries of health. A 30-day membership includes access to a spread of group exercise classes, including Pilates, Reaction Cycling, and Step Fitness (class offerings vary by location). For self-guided worker-outers, cardio equipment such as treadmills, elliptical machines, cross-trainers, and stair climbers torch calories while entertaining the brain with video entertainment and integrated music systems that occasionally whisper quotes from Charles Atlas. Bally also boasts an array of strength machines, free weights, and small-apparatus equipment, and grants gym-goers access to on-site locker rooms, showers, and, at some locations, a pool and steam room. Visit each location's webpage for a list of specific amenities and the lineup of classes.
Each year, MudManX issues runners the world’s dirtiest challenge: a race across mud-slathered obstacles that test both agility and laundry skills. Designed with the assistance of US Special Forces and Mother Nature's cool sister who lets you play in puddles, the course features obstacles inspired the elements of earth, wind, fire, and water. While exploring the course, runners travel through mud pits, past fiery trails, and over icy water before securing the boon of beer and live music. The post-race after party welcomes a steady lineup of bands and DJs and includes a MiniX obstacle course so children can finally discover the joys of getting dirty.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the American Red Cross, whose volunteers often rush through harsh and dirty conditions to deliver food, clothing, shelter, and comfort to those in need.
