Bernard’s offers a modern twist on Old World luxury. Elegant sconces line the walls like vintage streetlights in the salon area, and relaxation awaits in the serenity rooms. All this is the handiwork of Elizabeth Chnapko and her daughter Maria, who opened the salon after husband and father Bernard lost a long battle with cancer. While natural light pours in through the salon’s windows, skilled stylists sculpt flattering styles and add highlights. Invigorating facials segue into indulgent mani-pedis and specialty body treatments. In preparation for a therapeutic massage, clients may also make use of spa amenities such as complimentary tea, and men’s and women’s locker rooms.

Each with more than 10 years of experience behind them, the knowledgeable stylists at Garby’s Salon call upon their expertise while cosseting strands with products from Matrix and Paul Mitchell. Nail technicians add soothing paraffin-wax dips to manicures and paint toes with OPI or China Glaze polish. To complete their clients’ spa experiences, aestheticians and therapists oust stress with massages, facials, and reflexology treatments.

Anew Salon & Spa's Porshia Gooch splits her well-honed skills between scalp, skin, and nails, beautifying clients with styling, foil highlights, single-process color, facials, and manicures. The rest of the staff?stylists, aestheticians, and massage therapists?work within the salon?s honey-hued faux-marble walls to transform clients from scalp to toenail. They refresh drab looks with new haircuts and coloring treatments, and they slather on polish in a cozy pedicure nook outfitted with bench seating and plush pillows.

When choosing a moniker for their new salon, Evolve's team didn't just flip to a random page in the dictionary. They opted for a name that they felt best represented what they do on a daily basis: use the art of cutting, coloring, and styling hair to help their clients change not just the way they look, but also the way they feel about themselves. The salon itself, with its modern decor, creates a comfortable environment for this evolution to take place, and is also eco-friendly; stylists use products from the natural-ingredient-based Eufora line.

That elegant yet comfortable decor includes earth-toned checkered floors and the occasional area rug, floor-to-ceiling plant, and framed piece of art. Cushioned chairs with homey pillows make the waiting area a welcoming introduction to the salon, and white pillars throughout evoke a Greek symposium. An all-black ceiling, however, evokes the cosmos, with track lights resembling stars and hair clippings flung upward resembling a space shuttle streaking toward the heavens.
