Baristas at Cafe de Paris brew Novo coffee fresh for each cup and steep more than 50 different kinds of organic loose-leaf tea from International Tea Importers, filling the café with rich aromas transported inside a soft haze of steam idly spiraling through the air. Sipping microbrewed masala chai tea with pressed ginger between bites of sweet and savory crepes, panini sandwiches, and regular or gluten-free bagels, patrons may browse the Internet inside the café or listen to live jazz music and indie rock performances during weekly events. Outside on the terrace, lined with umbrella-topped tables, diners clink glasses of French wine or craft beers during nightly happy hours while strains of music linger in the background.
You’d be hard-pressed to find a can of vegetables, a bag of sliced bread, or a box of instant cake mix in The Backporch Cafe kitchen. The chefs are wary of the premade foods, bottled sauces, and magic beans found in grocery stores, preferring to whip up all their dishes from scratch. So they bake fresh apple pies, bran raisin muffins, and buttermilk biscuits each morning, along with from-scratch loaves of rye, wheat, and cheddar sourdough bread. As a yawning breakfast crowd begins to wander in, the chefs turn their attention to three-egg omelets, chorizo burritos, and lightly grilled french toast. Come lunchtime, they’ll layer housemade bread with house-smoked chicken, turkey, and ham before plating the sandwiches alongside handfuls of fries and scoops of potato salad.
Complementing all of this homestyle cooking is a beverage list that includes coffee, juice, bloody marys, screwdrivers, and Manmosas—orange juice mixed with Easy Street wheat beer from the nearby Odell Brewing Company. When the weather's nice, diners can lounge beneath magenta umbrellas on the patio.
Favorite dishes from the south populate the menu at Leenie's Southern Cafe. Early in the morning, chefs tuck ham into omelets and decorate waffles with bananas, whipped cream, and pecans and before creating lunchtime eats such as chicken and shrimp gumbo. Their culinary endeavors don?t stop there; they display their love of anything sweet by baking cupcakes, muffins, pie, and bacon pineapple upside down cake.
Moose Creek Cafe dishes out feasts of classic Americana to droves of loyal customers, whether they're locals sharing friendly conversation over cups of coffee, or tourists looking for a hearty breakfast before exploring the mountain scenery of nearby North Park. Art from local artists decorates the walls inside, while an open-air patio hosts lunches and dinners of chargrilled burgers, fajitas, and pepper steak.
With help from their sons, friends, and colleagues, lifelong restaurateurs Rob and Kelly Kukura opened 95a Bistro & Sushi in 2011, winning nearly instant acclaim from Boulder Magazine. The menu draws inspiration from Latin, Mediterranean, and Asian cuisines, showcasing hot and cold tapas such as bacon-wrapped dates and beef carpaccio along with entrees of brie-covered vegetable gnocchi and scottish salmon flavored with smoked-paprika brown butter. Their wide selection of sashimi and nigiri-style sushi includes the Firecracker specialty roll, whose fillings of citrus-aioli-topped crunchy tuna can be heard all the way down the street. The restaurant serves its brunches, lunches, and dinners both inside and on a seasonal outdoor patio overlooking a sprawling lawn.
Michaela DeGraw hails from Louisville, Colorado. As fate would have it, her business partner, Lisa Shuman, hails from Louisville, too—the one famous for its bluegrass. Though they grew up far from each other, they share a unique vision at Bean and Berry. They've built their business around a community mindset, creating a space where visitors can gather with friends for a cup of locally roasted coffee in the morning, a glass of wine in the evening, or a goblet of table salt at all hours. In addition to day-to-day snacking and sipping, Michaela and Lisa also open the doors to Bean and Berry for special events, including live music performances; check out their Facebook page for event updates. The menu features fresh to order sandwiches and salads and also hosts savory and sweet crepes.
