Ms. Bernadette approaches dancing from both an artistic and a fitness standpoint. As a dancer and ordained minister, she recognizes the spiritual and aesthetic beauty of graceful movements. As a personal trainer, she knows that performing those movements can be a great workout. At her studio, she combines dance classes with fitness classes, including Pilates and yoga, and teaches them with the goal of strengthening limbs and increasing students' flexibility.
Classes at Dahn Yoga integrate the ancient Korean practice of Sun Do along with the latest findings in neuroscience and behavioral studies to help students boost their overall health and well-being. In each yoga class, a passionate and experienced guru first limbers up yogis with 10–15 minutes of warm-up exercises. Pupils are then chaperoned through 30–45 minutes of stretches, strengthening postures, and meditation exercises, all while clearing cluttered minds and learning to master breath control like a black-belt sousaphonist. After 10 minutes of cooldown exercises, students and teachers mingle to quaff an aromatic cup of tea. Instructors regularly assess students’ strengths and weaknesses, recommending home exercises to complement in-class practices. Dahn Yoga also offers tai chi, meditation, vibration, intestinal exercise, and other special classes based on location.
Namaste Yoga Studio takes its name from a traditional South Asian greeting that roughly translates to "I honor the spirit in you that also resides in me." With this simple, yet profound philosophy in mind, instructors guide students of all skill levels through a range of different Yoga styles and fitness routines, including the restorative stretching of yin yoga, the soothing breathing techniques of Vinyasa flow, and the high-energy body movement of Ashtanga. Students sweat to infectious Latin rhythms during dance-inspired Zumba classes, or learn Pilates exercises, boxing techniques, and new portmanteau words during Piloxing classes.
The studio’s in-house licensed therapist, Gayla Coughlin, relieves achy muscles and helps treat an array of chronic conditions through massage therapy. For an extra dose of relaxation, visitors can also attend mind-centering events such as sound healing concerts.
The mission of the instructors at Northwest Yoga Studio is to to make their practice accessible. To that end, they lead classes of all kinds: yoga classes for experts and beginners alike, meditation classes to help soothe restless minds, and even a Zumba class to liven things up a bit. They also keep their schedule as flexible as their spines—even those who haven't signed up for a class can try the practice out, as the studio stays open 30 minutes before and after all scheduled classes.
103 Hot Pilates and Yoga's high-tech heating and humidifying system is designed to help draw out toxins and stretch muscles during hot yoga, Pilates, and boot camp sessions. The system also pumps fresh air back into the studio and removes odors and bacteria. Here, licensed instructors teach classes like 103 Intro Yoga, designed to help newbies learn the classic poses of yoga in a heated environment, and 103 Yoga Power Sculpt, a challenging 60-minute session designed to sculpt and tone the entire body. The 103 Barefoot Boot Camp class fuses cardio with strength training to efficiently condition muscles without sending them to timeout, or a 103 HPX Hot Pilates session, where core strength is emphasized and students rapidly burn off calories.
At Summerlin Yoga, teachers Martin Hinton, Liz Steers, Cristin Bartles, and Eddie Guerra boast certifications in yoga. They guide students through postures and breathing exercises in a room with brand new flooring, which helps to warm muscles and flush toxins from the body. Through regular practice of poses, students learn to stretch a host of muscles and ligaments in their bodies and reformat most of the microchips implanted in their brains. Students can partake in myriad types of classes, such as the physically demanding Vinyasa, the hot-room endurance of Tru Hot Pilates and Revitalize, or the cooler temperature alternative Yin Yoga Flow.
