Founded in the spirit of the late Dennis Hopper’s CineVegas festival, the Vegas Indie Film Fest! celebrates self-produced works from established directors and first-time creators alike. Whether their creations are feature-length, shorts, documentaries, or photo-realistic flipbooks, every director stands to win one of more than 100 Golden Bulb awards—which are made from actual lightbulbs from the “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign. Past events have been attended by the likes of Wayne Newton and Ted V. Mikels.

Naomi Rosen and Louise Carruth understand that tea is more than just a beverage. For Naomi, it’s the deep, complex flavors—from her position at Joy’s Teaspoon, she fills area pots with more than 75 loose-leaf teas and more than 30 spices. For Louise, it’s the community aspect. Enamored of tea’s ability to unite people, she frequently attends afternoon teas at assisted-living residences, where she bonds with residents over tea-leaf readings and tea-related yarns. The two have joined forces to organize the Las Vegas Tea Fest, which combines Naomi's extensive knowledge of her stock with Louise's appetite for togetherness. Their one-day event includes tea and food pairings, cooking with tea demonstrations, a traditional Chinese Wu-Wo tea ceremony, and on-site exhibitors such as Little Candle Tea Company. Tastings gather teas from countries such as India, Japan, and China, while local artisans hawk tea-related wares, such as giant teabags you can sleep in when you have a sore throat.

With classes designed to meet the needs of both beginner and advanced dancers, Tunay Ink instructors educate hip-hop hopefuls in the techniques and aerobic benefits of this popular street dancing style. Amid solid beats and graffitied brick walls, dance disciples can learn the primary elements of breaking before defying gravity and hair-spray hold with head spins. The popping savvy can lord over subservient muscle serfs with a series of classes that teach both popping techniques and effective employment of hip-hop lingo, or weekly locking classes that appeal to the acrobatically inclined with physically demanding moves, such as carrying a sleeper couch up three flights of stairs.

The course itself carries on that fun vibe, too. Winding through city streets and local parks, the 5K route is dotted with hydration stations that dole out hot chocolate. Holiday music, a giant Santa inflatable, and snow blowers help to set
