Artist Joanne Hunter opened The Art Garden as a place where children and adults could engage their creative minds and escape the clutches of modern technology, such as video games or iPods set on bear traps. She explained her goals to Meghan Kotowski at the Gwinnett Daily Post, saying, "I want kids away from controllers, cell phones, TV remotes. I want them to sit in conversation and use their imagination." Under her fun-loving guidance, people from all walks of life explore the art of painting and assemble themed projects using attic treasures, scrap metal, and other mixed media.
Hunter encourages self-expression during open studio sessions, weekly kids' classes, and group events such as birthday parties or girls' nights out. Hunter keeps works in progress on a brag wall, so-named for its incessant boasting about how it makes a perfect 90-degree angle with the floor.
Chef Lee Linton has sliced, diced, and sizzled up countless gourmet dishes for more than 30 years. He combines this hefty culinary experience with his passion for nutrition to craft 1,200- and 1,800-calorie meal plans designed to help health-conscious eaters like himself stay in tiptop shape without sacrificing taste or quality. Linton only uses fresh ingredients, shying away from the frozen, dehydrated, or astronaut-friendly ones often used in other premade meals. The menu, which is approved by an on-staff dietitian, rotates regularly, and meets the guidelines set by the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association, the American Dietetic Association, and the American Cancer Society. After Chef Linton and his team prepare the dishes within a USDA-approved kitchen, they’ll ship the meals directly to clients’ homes or prep them for pickup at one of Fresh ‘n Fit’s 37 locations.
Thousands of plants populate the cheery purple farmhouse and grounds at Randy’s Perennials & Water Gardens, where resident garden masters greet customer questions with horticultural knowledge derived from 25 years in business. Six display ponds spark landscaping inspiration and host species of albino catfish and butterfly koi, and staffers answer any water-gardening questions thrown their way and provide advice on purchasing from the selection of water-gardening accessories. A selection of edible greens like lettuce and collards and ornamental greens such as cabbage, mustard, and kale are tasty and decorative, while apple, peach, plum, and blueberry trees cheerfully sprout in front or back yards.
