Each year, runners gather in downtown Lawton for the Spirit of Survival, an annual, multi-race event benefiting the Cancer Centers of Southwest Oklahoma and cancer research worldwide. The gathering offers events for runners and walkers of all ages and abilities, including the Hulkin' Half-Marathon, the 5K Superhero Race, the Spirit Walk, the Quick Silver Quarter Marathon, and the Superhero Kid's Marathon. In conjunction with the organization's aim at fighting cancer and overcoming obstacles, Spirit of Survival encourages runners to don superhero costumes.
