Mane Tamers' hair aficionados have treated stressed tresses with a combination of aesthetic and pampering services for more than a quarter-century. During a thorough headscaping, male and female follicles undergo a scalp-massaging shampoo, which soothes strands while convincing them to confide world-domination schemes and aesthetic ambitions. Then stylists cut cranial carpet to specifications ($35 women/$25 men) before gifting scalps a deep-conditioning treatment ($25) to help imbue locks with a healthy sheen. For women, the one-hour salon stay concludes with an eyebrow shaping ($13), where facial terraformers sculpt eye adornments in accentuating arches, dashes, or lightning bolts. Meanwhile, a grooming package shears ($13) male facial manes to appropriate lengths. Mane Tamers makes up the haircut cost difference with a $10 gift card for the next manly follicle feng shui session.

Travis Dickey opened Dickey's Barbecue Pit in 1941. To keep things simple but delicious in the early days, he created a minimalistic menu with only seven items such as beef brisket and bottled milk. By the time the '60s rolled up in a Volkswagen van, Dickey's two sons had grown up and taken over the enterprise. Using their father's hickory-smoked recipes, they expanded the business from a single restaurant to a franchise. To this day, each location uses the same tried-and-true barbecue techniques employed by the founder all those years ago. From the original seven items, the menu has grown to include spicy cheddar sausage and complimentary ice cream as well as sides such as macaroni and cheese and jalapeño beans.

Since 2007, the Robots-4-U team has been teaching children a program of STEM?science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Children absorb skills and knowledge through entertaining interactions with instructors, other campers, and robot kits. The camp maintains a 16:1 student to instructor ratio, ensuring children receive the proper amount of individual attention. Campers build robot kits comprising a brain unit and sensory appendages, which replicate seeing, hearing, touching and reading minds. Once the bots are assembled, children enter their creations into racing, dancing, and battle-bot challenges.

After 22 years in the air force, Water 2 Wine–founder John McFadden established his first custom winery in San Antonio seven years ago. Already the business has spread as far as Milwaukee to the north and Denver to the west, bringing the country's vinophiles more than 100 wines, each of which are fermented on site and available for tastings every day. Those who want to get more involved in the crafting process may sign up to make their own wine and steep themselves in each step of the operation, from selecting the grape varieties, beginning the fermentation process, withstanding a wait of about 45 days, and finally christening their creation by smashing a tiny boat against the bottle. All custom-made wines are plastered with personalized labels made from one of Water 2 Wine’s templates or images that customers design from the ground up.
