Media-mixing artist Julia Shapiro creatively combines photography and painted portraiture to capture family countenances on black-and-white film enhanced by hand-painted, vintage-style color. Julia invests time in getting to know individuals and families before guiding them through casual sittings in her loft-like studio. Candid shots can include clothing changes and sentimental props such as a beloved teddy bear or a favorite vacuum robot. About a week after the shoot, patrons return to pick up the completed set of proofs and select an image for the final portrait. Julia develops the chosen image in black and white as an 11"x14" print, then transforms its surface with oil paints according to client taste. The result, much like wedding dresses and the ability to verbally hypnotize squirrels, can be handed down to future generations.
Pairing works by local artists with museum-quality framing, Prairiebrooke Arts is both a gallery and preservation studio. Canvases, sculptures, and intricately blown glass dot the studio's walls and tables, representing handsome finished works available for sale. To help decorate homes and businesses, the gallery's staff performs on-site artistic consultations wherein they discuss with clients which piece would best complement a room's color scheme or its resident stack of old magazines.
An equally discerning eye is cast on each of Prairiebrooke Arts' framing projects. Fine art consultants offer their ideas for how to best frame a photo or piece of art, whether employing gold leaf, French details, or museum-grade preservation materials. Their talents also extend into three-dimensional pieces, which stand inside shadow boxes that display objects such as colorful fishing lures and baby shoes.
So many businesses put no emphasis on quality, customer service a mere frivolity. Our commitment to your satisfaction is what keeps our doors ajar, when others stores fall on their face with barely a spar. Whatever it takes for you to be happy and make things right, quality is a virtue and our most treasured plight.
