Salem Scuba has been gifting Homo sapiens the gills necessary to swim with the fish for over a quarter century. Under the close supervision of a highly experienced staff, all certified members of the Professional Association of Diving Instructors, previously land-locked students spend three hours learning the basics of breathing under water, maneuvering in the depths, and understanding proper dolphin dinner etiquette. During an informative hour in the classroom, scuba gurus seek to allay any apprehensions, teaching soon-to-be explorers subaqueous safety basics and how to tell a snorkel from a straw. The class then moves to the indoor pool for two-hours of practical lessons, where students learn scuba and snorkeling skills such as kicking techniques, adjusting tank pressure, clearing water from masks, and breathing through a regulator. Salem Scuba provides all necessary equipment apart from a swimsuit and a whale-summoning trident.
Splash! at Lively Park provides Oregon residents with safe, warm year-round access to watery fun. The venue features a waterslide, a flooded basketball court, lap pool, and a wave pool, amongst more relaxing activities such as splashing in the pool or enjoying a hot tub. Splash! participates in local outreach programs, such as providing swimming lessons for every fourth-grader in the Springfield school district. The enormous space accommodates rentals for events with up to 1,000 people, dishing hot eats to fill bellies from its concessions stand. During warmer months, the outside playground and sundeck provide places to soak up sunshine and feel the sea-driven breeze.
