Jesse Ramos began his boxing career in Mexico when he was just 16 years old. Starting from such an early age, he learned to love the sweet science as a means to discipline his mind and connect with his body. With 30 years of experience now under his coaching belt, his passion for boxing burns all the brighter. Since opening up in 1999, Ramos, along with his team of dedicated instructors, has helped others stoke their own fighting fires. At Victory Gym, the coaches offer classes for students of any age or experience level. Students as young as 8 can work through basic techniques and footwork and build their conditioning, eventually graduating to live sparring inside the gym's regulation ring. For those looking to tone up while they float like a butterfly, but are too terrified to associate with bees, instructors also offer Zumba cardio dance classes.

For more than 35 years, guests of Courthouse Fitness have conquered every hindrance to personal health, taking advantage of a multilayered approach that addresses fitness, diet, and broader facets of well being. Beyond basic features such as weight training, cardiovascular equipment, and immobile floors that force walking, membership grants access to more than 320 group fitness classes that populate each week's schedule, integrating practices such as Pilates and yoga along with aqua Zumba and Jazzercise. Courthouse Fitness's personal trainers follow the philosophy that being fit means being empowered to embark on any kind of adventure you want. A core tenet within that philosophy is the belief in fun. The staff does not emphasize a rating system or hierarchy, instead evaluating progress in terms of whether clients become more able to experience an enjoyably active life. Onsite childcare providers take care of young ones while parents work out, and many youth activities also keep kids busy, including swimming and special-needs dance classes. Courthouse Fitness is also part of a network of 70 clubs in the Pacific Northwest; members can work out at those facilities as guests when on the road.

To support the pursuit of a leaner physique, the certified instructors at Fitness Link look to the "three pillars of health": performance, movement, and nutrition. Group classes heighten the performance of the whole body as students jab at punching bags, dangle from Trx cords, and cycle through cardio intervals.

To address the mechanics of movement, the studio's experts examine the body as a single unit, rather than an unruly flock of bones tied together by rubber bands. They aim to correct unsustainable movement patterns to prevent injury as bodies work themselves into shape.

Fitness Link's nutrition programs bolster fitness efforts with counseling, shopping guides, and food journals; supplements from Hammer and HealthForce deliver neatly packaged nutrients from muscle to muscle.

Nowadays, the term “martial arts” conjures up images of flashy Hollywood kicks, championship trophies, and prismatic collections of ranked belts. Many often forget, however, that the martial arts are tools for self-defense. The instructors at McKenzie Martial Arts eschew the glamour and instead focus on teaching students how to protect themselves, encouraging participation from the entire family. They lead kids, teens, and adults through a range of disciplines, including Bruce Lee’s street-level jeet kune do, Gracie jujitsu, and weapon-centric Filipino kali and escrima. During each lesson, they’ll equip students with gloves and padded weapons and let them put their newfound skills to use in a ring or mat-covered training room. Family members, meanwhile, can watch their kin square off by meditating to the point of omnipresence or simply nabbing a spot in the comfortable viewing area.
