Led by founder Sandy Adler, certified Anusara instructor, Freedom Yoga's instructors lead classes throughout the week for both beginners and more advanced students. Instructors tap into their experience, skill, and dedication to help students develop a safe and meaningful yoga practice, searching within themselves and their pupils to align spiritual centers, increase strength, and boost flexibility. Rather than using intense exercises or giant marionette strings to affect the mind and body from the outside, Anusara's poses originate from within the body, using deliberate breath and movement as a form of meditation to hone the mind while helping the body increase its strength and balance.
At Sweaty Ganesh Yoga studio, yoga serves as a transformative journey for every person who enters. All students, no matter their experience or skill level, are recognized for their current ability and empowered to test limitations of strength and flexibility. Along with beginners’ hot yoga classes, held throughout the week, the studio also holds classes for kids 6–12. Workshops help students perfect bow poses, backward bends, forward folds, and stretching postures. The fundamental approach teaches strength and flexibility while the postures test balance.
Heat permeates Bikram Yoga West Linn’s sprawling studios, whose circling ceiling fans symbolize the constantly flowing movement that takes place in classes below them. The 105-degree temperature loosens muscles and releases toxins, as students flow through Bikram’s 26 poses, taught by 16 instructors. In this setting, instructors helps students of all levels get the most out of Bikram yoga by building strength and developing the flexibility of an astronaut who can rap, cook, and touch her toes while freestyling about beef stroganoff. For 90 minutes, teachers help pupils control their breathing, resulting in more oxygenated blood.
The mission of Body and Brain Yoga—alongside its affiliate yoga centers—is to make yoga accessible to everyone, everywhere. To this end, each team of instructors modulate movements based on Korean sun do to match each students’ needs. Classes emphasize aligning the body and mind equally through stretches, breathing exercises, and meditation, and each session is capped off by a 10-minute tea time, during which students and instructors can socialize or reenact Alice in Wonderland's interview with the Easter Bunny.
