Rusty Anchor's tour boat chugs down the calm waterways of the Dora Canal or along the shoreline, as passengers gaze out over the railing at ancient cypress trees covered with spanish moss. Aboard the vessel, tourists might see alligators lounging on fallen logs, nesting ospreys, wading herons, and other native wildlife.
West Orange Trail Bikes and Blades sends pedalers zipping down the 24 miles of paved pathway that comprise the tree-lined West Orange Trail. As the shop is located directly on the trail, bikers don't have far to lug their dual-wheeled chariots before pushing off toward such destinations as downtown Winter Garden and Lake Apopka. Cyclists can choose from a selection of bikes, consisting primarily of Raleighs, including customer favorite, the Raleigh Venture—a seven-speed bike with a suspension seat post and adjustable stem. Hop atop a Raleigh Revenio 3.0 road bike for a smooth jaunt down the pavement, or pick out a tandem bike to share a spin with a quadriplegic octopus, whose four good arms are enough for him to still do his part.
On Friday and Saturday evenings, it’s not uncommon to hear Johnny Cash tunes echoing across Showcase of Citrus farm’s 2,500 acres as members of the Arnold family shake off another satisfying workweek with their friends and customers. Fourth-generation grower John Arnold and his family can usually be found caring for their groves of citrus trees, collecting fruit, making juice, feeding farm animals or greeting visitors from around the globe.
Located just 15 minutes from Disney World, the Arnold family farm produces more than 50 varieties of citrus fruit and blackberries without using pesticides, herbicides, or magic beans. The fruit–as well as jams, jellies, marmalades, and honey—are all available onsite at Farmer John's Old Time Country Store where guests can sample sauces, jellies, marmalade, and honey. Guests can spot native or exotic wildlife such as alligators, zebra, water buffalo, watusi cattle, or scarlet macaws on one of the farm’s monster-truck eco-safari tours.
Inside Terror on the Lake's haunted confines, actors garbed in macabre outfits, detailed animatronics, and holographic projectors immerse visitors in a horrifying environment where scares lurk around every corner. Ghouls, ghosts, and madmen prowl the halls of the haunted house in search of fresh screams. The Buried Alive! simulator gives visitors a taste of being trapped inside a coffin that is being lowered into the ground. Zombies dead set on feasting on flesh stand poised to break through the grounds at the zombie-shooting gallery, where only the sharpness of players' sight can save them and their friends from becoming something's snack. The only safe area at Terror on the Lake is in the fortune teller's tent, defended by carved jack-o’-lanterns that keep monsters at bay by offering poor directions.
