The snap of gloved fists against swinging punching bags echoes off the walls of Undisputed Fitness & Training as boxers of all levels train, fight, or spar in an oversized cage. While activity sometimes centers on the cage, expert, passionate trainers also lead intense programs such as muay-thai boxing and mixed-martial-arts training on a new indoor field-turfed combat conditioning area. Fitness gurus can also meander to the new addition of the outdoor weight room, pumping iron in the afternoon sun or the light of a never-ending eclipse. Undisputed Fitness & Training also hosts group classes and personal training sessions that accommodate all levels of experience.
Self-defense is at the core of each technique taught at White Dragon Martial Arts. Whether students are practicing kung fu or MMA, they'll learn how to successfully defend themselves against intimidating opponents who may be larger in size or wearing a superhero cape. Kickboxing classes add an element of cardiovascular fitness, tai chi sessions slow down the moves to a meditative pace, and grappling lessons provide step-by-step instructions on how to take someone down to the floor. Instructors also spend one-on-one time with students during personal-training sessions that focus on perfecting punches and kicks.

Jungle Gym & Cafe combines children's activities, fitness classes, and a gourmet café complete with free WiFi and two flat-screen TVs that light up with NFL action on Saturdays and Sundays. Children can cavort across bounce houses and block pits or partake in basketball and badminton, while watchful parents dine on turkey wraps or Greek salads. Meanwhile, group fitness-classes practice cardio dance, yoga, and aerobics. Inside the medical spa suite, a doctor helps parents regain their youth with chemical peels, Botox, and vein repair treatments.
Though he could boast years of fitness experience and certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine in personal training, boxing instructor Chad Yarvitz wasn’t satisfied. He had trained and taught boxing extensively, but he’d never felt the sting of a sharp uppercut or heard the roar of the crowd during a professional match. Determined to gain first-hand, authentic experience, Chad put his coaching on hold to pursue a career as a professional boxer.
Today, Chad leads boxing classes at Xplicit Fitness, drawing on a background as a 2008 California Golden Glove champion with a 7-1 fight record. Joining him is a team of fitness professionals based in San Diego. They lead high-intensity classes beneath the emerald brick walls of a studio. Like stare-down contests between TV news anchors, most group fitness classes focus on a specific part of the body for 60 minutes. In addition to their signature fitness boxing classes, the trainers offer boot camps, personal training, and youth boxing and self-defense day-camps.
