Breaking with the no-nonsense vibe of the shop’s warehouse exterior, Aquila Glass School’s brightly painted loading-dock door hints at the vibrant creativity that waits inside. The full-time working studio simmers with nine kilns as students shape molten glass into plates, beads, boxes, or Christmas tree ornaments. Students cut their teeth on introductory classes that teach fusing and studio safety, then graduate to more advanced skills such as torch work and marble making. The expansive facility also offers 68 hours of open studio time each week, where graduates of introductory classes return to further their education with more classes or create independent projects with free use of the facilities, tools, and instruction books made entirely of stained glass. Capturing True Emotion is driven by a dynamic band of instructors who rove across the continent with cameras and teaching skills in hand. By fusing their narrative, tech-savvy minds together into one oversize head, the educators provide comprehensive guidance on both camera operation and creative visualization, giving participants complete control over all of their camera settings. During the hours spent in the company of other pupating shutterbugs, students convene at a tantalizing location to practice skills such as controlling depth of field by adjusting the aperture, composing a family portrait so there's not always a burning zeppelin in the background, using alternative angles to avoid red eye, and other techniques.

Portrait artist Charles Waugh visualizes and executes stunning portraits of his subjects, drawing out inner personalities and highlighting exterior beauty to the delight of such renowned clients as Katie Harman-Eber, Miss America 2002, or Tom Potter, the 50th mayor of Portland. Charles works closely with every client, creating the ideal setting, lighting, and mood for each shoot, and employing his expertise in photo enhancement to touch up and soften images as much or as little as a client would like. He attacks his craft with an eye for detail, evident in his careful selection of backdrops and lighting that draw in the viewer’s eye and flatter faces. This skill has extended into his invention of the smartphone SlingShot, which steadies smartphones as they record video, capture vacation moments, or deploy streams of water from their prank apps.

Far more than merely creating fine photography, Charles Fine Art Portraits maintains a strong commitment to community service. The company has donated more $100,000 every year to noble causes such as Doernbecher Children's Hospital, Girls, Inc., and Guide Dogs for the Blind.
