Inside La Luna Dance Studio, students whirl like colorful tops, salsa dancing, tango dancing, or swing dancing atop a 5,000-square-foot dance floor as a crystal-clear sound system pumps tunes. Encouraging instructors stand nearby, breaking down the music and the steps of each style, as friends, partners, and the newly acquainted bond over each tap of their toes. While the studio specializes in these adult Latin-dance courses, junior-level programs welcome kids aged 3 and older, and all classes are scaled to beginner, intermediate, or advanced levels. In addition to their comprehensive month-long programs, the sashayers host special events and dance parties, such as BYOB Salsa Friday every second and fourth weekend, and an annual symposium on the safety risks of holding roses in your teeth.
At VIVA Ballroom Dance Studio beginners with no prior experience can learn the basics while more advanced dancers hone their skills in a variety of dance styles from ballroom to break dancing. A talented team of instructors teaches private and group lessons in ballet, Latin, hip-hop, tap, jazz, ballroom, and lyrical dance styles. In addition, the studio offers fitness classes such as Zumba and yoga as an alternative way to achieve cardio fitness.
Though they didn't know each other at the time, Evgeny Dyachenko and Inna Ivanenko both discovered ballroom dancing in Russia at the age of 7. They enjoyed tremendous success in their respective careers, placing among the top competitors in championships across the globe, but it wasn't until they moved to the US and met one another that their achievements began to pile up like film-award statuettes in a movie star's toy chest. In 2006, they ranked second in the World American Rhythm Show Dance Championship; they toured 25 cities performing with Dancing with the Stars in 2007; and in 2008, they lit up theaters across the nation in the stage show Champions of the Dance. Eventually, they decided to share their talents with others and opened their own studio. Today, Evgeny, Inna, and their team of instructors lead dancers of all ages and levels through social and competitive dancing programs in a variety of
styles—24 styles, specifically, which include foxtrot, rumba, West Coast swing, and tango.
At Socialsport Dance Club, the instructors specialize in first dances, whether it's for your wedding or it's literally your first dance. During private and group lessons, they walk beginners through one of 13 ballroom dances, including the foxtrot, waltz, and rumba. For more upbeat movements, the studio also hosts swing cha cha and salsa classes that can burn more calories than a four-hour tango.
Technique, performance, artistry, and life skills. Those are the pillars on which Dance Arts Conservatory molds it students into fully formed dancers. Even the youngest ballet students here start their paths with technique, learning pas de basque and three-point turns before moving on to more complex moves. But ballet is not the only curriculum here. Instructors here also teach jazz, tap, and hip hop classes, each with their own distinct style. The school's large class slate also includes fitness-based dance classes—such as Zumba and Red Hot Dance Fitness—which combine energetic dance steps with upbeat songs to keep classes fun.
