Supervised by owner and native Neapolitan Leonardo Capezzuto, staff at Leonardos Italian Cafe serves up specialty pastas, pizzas, and grilled paninis in a “casual and unfussy” atmosphere praised by the Lexington Herald-Leader. Hungry hands can pluck pizzas by the slice ($1.75) or fling 14-inch disks festooned with a single topping ($8.99) into waiting mouths or nearby frisbee-golf baskets. Alternately, forks can swirl up specialty pastas such as the penne amatriciana ($6.99), which spackles penne pasta with house tomato sauce, caramelized onion, and bacon. A savory chicken breast roosts on a nest of spaghetti in the chicken parmesan ($6.99), and the turkey panino ($5.99) slides poultry and gouda cheese betwixt basil-lined bread halves and sheets of fresh tomato. To prevent the sweet sorrow of spoken goodbyes, end-of-meal mouths can stuff themselves with the literal sweetness of sicilian cannoli or tiramisu ($3.99).

From SkyBar's penthouse-level perches, rooftop revelers can fix their eyes on the panoramas of Lexington's lovely skyline and the manicured toes of soaring birds. Anchored by chic signatures such as the beef and lamb carpaccio ($10.00), SkyBar's menu features upscale American fare and Spanish-style small plates. Whet wetter appetites with a tipple from the exhaustive drink list. Selections of wine, scotch, and cognac (glasses starting at $7.50) keep quaffs classic, and cocktails such as the absinthe-infused Mint Muse ($10) leave imbibers wondering if new green-fairy dance partners are real, imaginary, or ferns.

An open-flame hearth is at the heart of Cosi's kitchen space, giving sandwiches and pizzas their toasty crunch. But there's a lot more to the menu than what happens under the flame. The T.B.M. sandwich piles tomatoes, basil, and fresh mozzarella inside warm flatbread and the tandoori chicken sandwich brightens up grilled chicken breast with red peppers. Even salads are hearty meals here, with choices such as the cobb mixing greens with grilled chicken breast, bacon, and gorgonzola in a sherry-shallot vinaigrette. The crown on top of any meal here is undoubtedly the s'mores, in which two to four diners roast their own marshmallows over a tabletop fire pit, then sandwich the sugar cloud with chocolate and graham crackers before dragging their sleeping bags into the kitchen for a night's rest.
