The computer-savvy artists at Expansive Art go beyond the camera lens, incorporating specialized software and high-tech equipment to tell the unique story of a person or family. The team at the photography studio specializes in creating photographic studies: a planned series of poses designed to elicit the subject's true character. A designer chooses the lighting and props, and a director oversees the entire process, guiding the photographer and subject through the expressive poses. Finally, a digital artist enhances the sequential shots with advanced software, creating special effects or textual additions. The crew frequently uses greenscreens during playful senior-photo shoots that cast the impending graduates as ninjas, vampires, or carbon copies of their parents, who they will someday become. The company's separate, 8,000-square-foot show room displays a variety of decorative art, including reusable "wall tattoos" and photos backlit with LED displays. Guests can admire the large, colorful pieces while sipping a coffee at the in-house café.
Since opening her graphic-design studio in 2011, photographer Ann Marie Nipp has been using her Cannon DSLR to capture casual compositions unrestrained by formal convention, focusing instead on the easy smiles that result from her patient, ebullient personality. Her portfolio of work reveals joyous newlyweds, confident professionals, and relaxed families, but gives special celebration to children, who beam exuberantly as they play in front of her lens. Though occasionally contracted for work in the fourth-dimension, Nipp primarily shoots on-location throughout Lexington, carrying her portable studio to places that hold special meaning to her clients. Her eye for design works in tandem with her passion for photography, allowing her to easily edit photos and turn them into everything from business logos and fliers to greeting cards of her own creation.
From Bob Dylan and President George Bush to beloved pet beagles, photographer Mark has captured subjects of all sorts with a practiced eye honed at the Art Institute of Atlanta. Today, Mark operates an extensive photo complex with his wife, Stella. Outside, his portrait garden frames couples, families, and tots with ponds and waterfalls. Inside, he uses some 50 different backgrounds to set the stage for indoor shoots, which include tempestuous but tasteful Red Door Divas boudoir images. Stella helps ladies accessorize for the shots, which can range from retro-styled pinup poses to head shots that highlight the sitter's facial features. Whatever type of image he's crafting, Mark can lend prints a more artistic bent by altering them to fit the style of oil or watercolor paintings.
Though he was working at his family’s construction business, Tom Carr always hoped he could return to doing what he loved. From the moment he started shooting with his parents’ old Polaroid as a 12-year-old boy, he’d known photography was his passion. He kept snapping shots as a hobby, working at it during his off time until he finally made the leap and opened his own studio. Now, Tom draws on more than 22 years of experience as he captures families in natural light and documents landmark events such as engagements. He likes to capture genuine smiles and to “catch kids in their own element,” which he does by following little ones around as they clamber on monkey bars, pick daisies, or mock the outfits that an imaginary friend wears blue socks with.
Erica Lee feels photography is one of the best means of time travel. She loves capturing instances and emotions and preserving them for future generations. To craft the most striking images, she relies on her eight years of photography experience as well as her background in painting and interior design. That combination results in photo shoots that focus on light, color, and texture for dramatic results. She brings that holistic approach to each shoot, including sessions for families, moms-to-be, and high school seniors. Classy boudoir and fashion shoots are available, as well.
