If you tried reciting all the services provided at Maxon Shooters Supplies and Indoor Range, you'd likely run out of breath. In addition to the indoor ranges, the staff covers everything from installing scopes via gunsmithing services to storing firearms in a climate-controlled facility. Fifteen training courses are overseen by experienced, NRA- and state-certified instructors, and events such as ladies' nights and seasonal zombie shoots encourage communal environments.
Article 2 Gun Range is an eight-range shop staffed by expert NRA-certified marksmen. They teach courses ranging from the basics of firearm handling to advanced pistol or NRA-qualification lessons. They also host quickshot tournaments, which challenge shooters to blast targets as fast as they can. Additionally, every Tuesday night, the range is the site of a zombie apocalypse, during which shooters purchase and take aim at gray-faced zombie targets filled with fake blood.
The sudden roar of gunfire rolls over Richmond Hunting Club's facilities, which sprawl across 850 untamed acres. The club's location nearly adjacent to Chain O' Lakes State Park draws sportspeople of all levels who can spend time shooting skeet, boarding a loyal hunting dog at the onsite kennel, paintballing, or stocking up on ammo at the pro shop. Outdoorsy folks who frequent the club often tie up their mountain goat outside and congregate inside the Bar & Grill, refueling weary trigger fingers with buffalo burgers and pheasant pot pies in a classic hunting-lodge setting.
A pistol range on one side, a rifle range on the other, and two classrooms in between. Not a single square foot goes to waste inside On Target Range and Tactical Training Center, where instructors teach classes for all skill levels. Just a few doors down from the range, On Target's gunsmiths Nick Stauber and Tom Temen draw on 30 years of experience when cleaning and maintaining firearms.
At Chicago Firearm Training, chief instructors John Frycek and Jamie Tallerico combine their NRA training certifications with field experience as private investigators and personal-security specialists. The two assemble their instructional team from experienced law-enforcement officers, who receive ongoing training so they can pass on the most current armed defensive tactics to students. In addition to keeping their team's skills sharp, John and Jamie assign two or three instructors to each class. Coupled with enrollment limits, this approach helps ensure instructors can give individual attention and greet each student in their class by humming them a personalized theme song.
