Elsie Lodde grew up on a farm surrounded by her own menagerie. She bottle-fed her first homeless kittens and bunnies at a young age and began bringing home and caring for strays in her free time as an adult. She started working for a national rescue group but grew unhappy with the group's restrictions and decided to rescue dogs on her own. Elsie founded Recycled Pets Norcal to give homeless animals a chance they might not otherwise get in shelters. The entire staff consists of volunteers, who foster many animals in their own homes before finding adoptive families for them in Northern California, vowing to follow up with each adoption to ensure the animals don't return to shelters. The organization also spays or neuters homeless animals and assists dogs' adoptive families with training, food, and transportation to veterinary appointments.
As a lifelong member of the NRA and a sport shooter since he was 11 years old, John Taylor felt pained every time he read about or heard of an accidental shooting. Now as chief firearms instructor at Best Handgun Training, John and his team strive to end such incidents by teaching clients how to safely to handle and operate a firearm in the event they should need to use one. An array of classes, including a selection of NRA-certified courses, trains participants in armed self-defense. Best Handgun Training's locations let instructors utilize a combination of classroom, puppet theater, and on-range instruction to demonstrate not only the technical skills of wielding a gun, but also developing a responsible attitude.
Despite their determinedly of-the-moment sound, Redfoo and Sky Blu are carrying on a long pop lineage: the former is Motown founder Berry Gordy's son, the latter his grandson. As red-hot electropop duo LMFAO, the uncle-nephew pairing electrifies dance floors with manic odes to party life. The 2012 Sorry for Party Rocking tour explodes with fan favorites such as "Party Rock Anthem" and newer hits such as "Sexy and I Know It," which has a bouncy swagger that dominated the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 28 weeks. Meanwhile, the band parades in neon animal prints amid backup dancers, bobbing beneath giant robot heads, tossing inflatables into the crowd, and creating a spectacle Metro Weekly calls "enormously entertaining."
In the decade since Kelly Clarkson was crowned the winner of the first season of American Idol, she’s put out four albums and racked up four Grammys, two AMAs, and two MTV Video Music Awards. Entertainment Weekly placed her on its list of 30 Greatest Music Artists Right Now not only for her pop prowess but because "she makes her own rules," branching out into country sounds and serving as a guest mentor on The Voice. Her voice slashes and soars through her anthemic breakout-breakup hit “Since U Been Gone,” and the resilience and maturity gained from a decade in the sometimes-harsh public eye peek through her recent chart-topper “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You).”
Due to security restrictions, G-Passes must be printed out and presented in person at the event. They cannot be redeemed through Groupon's mobile app.
Grapes hang heavy from the vines on trellises scattered across 20 acres of the rolling Lincoln Hills. The fruit, tended by Wise Villa Winery's oenophiles, yield awards, including a prestigious honor from the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. Owner and winemaker Dr. Grover Lee draws on viticulture training while producing single-variety and blended wines or doing the crossword in the Grapes Aficionado Quarterly. Within the winery, the tasting room fills with the sound of clinking glasses as patrons sample various award winners, such as the Blanc de Noir pinot noir, a wine with notes of strawberries and watermelon. The winery also arranges frequent events, including live music on Sundays, grape-stomping parties, and reservation-only pairing dinners at its bistro.
