You might be inclined to find the smallest pumpkin available at The Great Pumpkin Haul's patch. That's because you won't just be taking this pumpkin home to carve it into a ghoulish mascot; you'll also be lugging it through a 2-mile obstacle course. Racers balance their chosen gourd on their shoulders as they trundle through corn fields, orange- and red-hued woody trails, and open pasture, all while scrambling over hay bales and other autumnal obstacles. While the race is only 2 miles long, it can be challenging when balancing a 10–20 pound pumpkin. That's why the staff awards such perseverance with prizes for those carrying the heaviest pumpkin, those daring to carry two pumpkins, and those who complete the race fastest.
After competitors cross the finish line, they're rewarded with mugs of warm apple cider and glasses of pumpkin beer. They're also welcome to hang out for a few hours to tackle the corn maze, revel in the brisk autumn weather, and groove to local music. All of the day's proceeds go to The Children's Hospital Colorado.
When the festivities wind down, guests can take their once burdensome pumpkin home to carve it into a jack-o-lantern while feeling the sweet, sweet release of revenge.

Though its programs have resonated with kids throughout the Denver area, Kids? Nite Out Across America was created with parents in mind. While kids supervised by staffers participate in fun activities?including swimming, sports, and music?guardians can enjoy a night off and take advantage of the time to go to dinner, see a movie, or eat all the ice cream they want. And to give them peace of mind, each Kids? Nite Out Across America staff member is vetted via a national background check every year.
At Runners Roost, the staff members don’t just outfit athletes with shoes in the right sizes—they make sure the footwear matches each wearer’s individual needs with a thorough gait-and-arch analysis. As discussed during an interview with Colorado and Company, the staff records video of clients’ feet as they jog on a treadmill, then examines still frames to assess whether the shoes are offering proper support. With this method, customers can find the ideal footwear from brands such as New Balance, Saucony, and Nike for both women and men.
Channeling wisdom collected over the company’s 35 years in business, the pros at Runners Roost’s numerous Colorado locations also outfit athletes with accessories and sweat-wicking apparel perfect for triathlons over hot coals. In addition to supporting feet, Runners Roost has supported the local community throughout the years by sponsoring high-school cross-country and track meets, marathons, and other events.
PDX Hunt pits teams against each other during treasure and beer hunts as they scour cities in search of checkpoints in order to win cash and prizes. Hunts are held in various cities across the country, with teams getting acquainted with their own city and one another as they fight for bragging rights. Text-messaged clues point contestants in the right direction, leading them to secret locations to which they then dash like dogs to spilled hot-dog water. At various locations, crews must complete unique tasks. Moving on foot or city bus, groups must stay together at all times, lest wanderers fall prey to competing gangs or become distracted by lurking shadow puppeteers. After the races, which can sometimes cover 4–6 miles, the top 10 placing teams receive prizes and glory for their skillful navigation of the town.
When Roald Dahl wrote Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, he imagined a much-coveted golden ticket that granted access to myriad wonders and unveiled the inner workings of an entire industry. MetaBody created a real-life version of that ticket with the MetaBody Yoga & Fitness Pass, though it applies to fitness instead of candy. The pass grants access not to a single gym but to classes at a variety of local studios, specializing in everything from yoga to boot camp. With the freedom to move from location to location, students can sample different regimens, instructors, and styles of exercise to cobble together a program that fits their needs and goals. MetaBody's nutritionists supplement class packages by coaching clients in healthy eating, recipe cooking, and speed-reading nutrition-fact labels.
Challenge Nation pioneered the urban-adventure race with a race season that includes visits to more than 35 cities across the country. Each scavenger hunt is personalized to the hosting city, exploring its many diverse neighborhoods with a series of clues that would test even the most skilled children's-book detective. The teams?composed of at least two people?vie for a $300 first-place prize. The Amazing Race?style competition rewards quick wits and wise planning over physical fitness, so the best way to prepare is by doing logic puzzles while eating Funyuns and lounging in a La-Z-Boy. The top 25 teams qualify, the top five receiving free entry, to compete in the national championship, which rewards winning teams with a $5,000 cash prize.
