To some kids, playing means building a block house; to others, it means reading a good book. PlayToday Drop-in Daycare accommodates kids' varying interests with a wide array of play stations, geared toward ages 2–12. One station is geared toward reading, another focuses on building, and others range from an audio center to a dress-up wardrobe.
We are dedicated to the care and development of the children we serve. From the stone water fountain out front to the turquoise wall and starburst-like lighting fixture behind the reception desk, Westlake Eyecare looks more like a spa than an eye doctor's office. However, licensed therapeutic optometrist and optometric glaucoma specialist Dr. Katie Kaufman is concerned with more than just beautiful appearances. She helps take care of eye health with services such as preoperative evaluations for LASIK surgery and retinal exams. Dr. Kaufman uses the Optomap device during these exams, carefully scanning the back of the eye and looking for signs of glaucoma, macular degeneration, or permanent imprints of decades-old solar eclipses.
Since 2007, the Robots-4-U team has been teaching children a program of STEM?science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Children absorb skills and knowledge through entertaining interactions with instructors, other campers, and robot kits. The camp maintains a 16:1 student to instructor ratio, ensuring children receive the proper amount of individual attention. Campers build robot kits comprising a brain unit and sensory appendages, which replicate seeing, hearing, touching and reading minds. Once the bots are assembled, children enter their creations into racing, dancing, and battle-bot challenges.
This education-based childcare center offers schooling, summer camps, and enrichment programs for children aged 6 weeks to 13 years. Based on the philosophy that children "learn best by doing," these programs use hands-on activities to teach students basic skills in literacy, mathematics, and bedtime negotiations. Summer workshops explore topics ranging from robotics to soccer, and certified instructors lead groups through scavenger hunts and volunteer projects during assorted camp programs.
