Lisa Rowe Glickoff's more than 20-year career is just as diverse as the pictures of fantasy, special effects, and beauty makeup in her portfolio. When she is not busy prepping faces for fashion, film, and high-profile events? such as dolling up celebs for the 2006 Academy Awards? the makeup-industry veteran spends time on the product side of the industry. In addition to serving as a beauty rep for brands such as Paula Dorf Cosmetics, she also has created Astute, her own line of makeup. But even with all of these accomplishments, the one that?s closest to her heart remains the founding of Astute Artistry, her makeup-training boutique and beauty studio. From within the 8,000 square foot space?decorated with modern Paris-themed decor?she teaches aspiring make-up artists how to create Hollywood-approved special effects and beauty makeup during hands-on classes that range from beginner level to advanced professional.
When not teaching others the tricks of the beauty trade, Lisa puts her aesthetician license and chic boutique to use by shaping brows with threading, enhancing eyes with lash extensions, and rejuvenating mature, teen, and dehydrated skin during facials. Lisa and her team also provide traditional makeup applications for brides and those attending special events.
Lisa is also committed to helping those in need, which is why she founded Astute Artistry II, a nonprofit makeup studio catering to women affected by skin and hair conditions, which was featured in Hour Detroit magazine.
The attentive aestheticians at Skincare Resolutions employ a salvo of hydrating creams, natural plant extracts, and exfoliating acids to coddle visages with soothing, 45-minute facials. The peptide-infusion facial helps to refresh and repair time-worn skin with a cleansing alpha-peptide peel and a hydrating lavender gel mask. Gentle glycolic and lactic acids resurface the epidermis—reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles—and an infusion of peptides, vitamins C and B, and antioxidants help to kick dormant dermal-collagen factories into gear. A final application of SPF 30 helps to protect visages from UV rays and errant radio waves. The raspberry-peach enzyme facial eschews acids in favor of natural enzyme exfoliators imbued with the essence of hibiscus flower. A dusting of pumpkin extract softens the skin, stimulates turnover of cells, and occasionally transforms into a horse-drawn carriage mid-treatment.
When you're served your complimentary cup of herbal tea
upon entering Beauty Spa Lounge, think of it as a sort of prelude. The purpose of the tea is to facilitate relaxation, to help clients surrender whatever stresses, worries, or children might still be clinging to them from the outside world, and ease into the more easygoing pace that governs the spa. Once guests are feeling aligned and in tune with their new environment, the treatments begin?a cleansing facial, for instance, that helps relax and tone the skin, or an orange mango peel mani-pedi, which pampers tired hands and feet with cuticle treatments, head, shoulder, and back massages, and a hot stone calf treatment. Throughout its entire service menu, Beauty Spa Lounge incorporates natural and organic salts and sugars and essential oils, plus signature herbal formulas
that the skin care experts mix by hand before each treatment in order to tailor the formula to meet each client's unique needs. While not as relaxing as its other treatments, the spa also offers eyelash extensions in a variety of shapes and styles, plus waxing services for brows, chins, underarms, kiwi fruits, and Brazilian bikini areas.
The medical aestheticians at Milla's Beauty Center help clients attain juvenescent skin without surgery. Professional body and facial treatments get an indulgent twist from ingredients such as organic ginger and 24-karat gold, and instant beautification comes in the form of eyelash extensions and makeup applications—services that Milla's artists also extend to bridal parties and those prepping for special occasions. A waiting room outfitted in plush lime-green chairs hosts patrons before trained technicians tend to clients' exteriors and swap favorite lasagna recipes in comfortable, secluded treatment rooms.
At Preeti Arch Spa N Salon, aestheticians carefully arch and shape eyebrows using the ancient practice of threading?a depilatory technique that whisks away precise patches of hair with a thin strand of cotton thread. They also keep skin smooth with waxing services and facial treatments, and embolden eyes with luscious eyelash extensions. The salon's team also includes talented henna artists who decorate hands and bodies with temporary designs, patterns, and elaborate to-do lists.
Behind Alandre Salon & Day Spa's curved, marbled reception desk, internationally trained beauticians lavish guests with cosmetic, med-spa, and salon treatments. Almond-colored walls surround private treatment rooms, and thickly padded chairs cosset patrons as they receive pedicures. Within the Alandre fold is platform artist and salon partner Rajaei Haddad. Having been the ambassador and educator for L'Oreal Paris and Shwartscoff Germany for over a decade, and the owner of a prestigious Middle East salon, he performs artistry of formal styling, precision cutting, coloring and more. Haddad specializes in updos and makeup, especially for bridal arrangements.
